VoG puzzle solved? What about that portal?

Hi forums! I'd like to take the opportunity to throw this out there. Hopefully some of you noticed this as well because it has me pondering for quite a while now. So, ever since I first set foot into VoG a couple of weeks ago and subsequently finishing it (after approx 10 grueling hours), I was truly surprised by the sheer size of each level. The only thing that was 'off' for me was the fact that Gorgon's Labyrinth seems pretty empty and the puzzle has no added function other than ruining your raid-run without dying. I also noticed that portal in the middle of the second to last area (the puzzle area or right before Atheon 'the unfallen' ... Lol get it?). Anyway; I was under the assumption that Bungie just put it there for future content. So that would make it an idle portal right now. But what if it isn't? And this is what I find strange. Each week tiny bits of the VoG get uncovered, say the fifth chest, but no YouTube-video mentions this portal. Each week a new strategy or exploit gets to see the light of day yet still no word on the portal. There are two main reasons leading me to believe this portal isn't idle; 1) when me and my team defeated the Templar without him teleporting, the puzzle in aforementioned area started spawning extra blocks. When done correctly you can use these blocks to reach the portal that is otherwise inaccessible 2) I haven't read any official update or post stating that the puzzle has been solved So are we missing something? Is there a way to open this portal? Can you go back after defeating Atheon? Or do you have to go back before the door closes (after the double relic-phase)? Or do you open it by clearing the first two phases without dying? Bungie has ALWAYS put little somethings in there games to throw their community off. The scarab-gun in Halo 2, the legendary endings in H1 and H3. Weeks after the treasure cave gets patched, they put in some weird Hive mass grave that produces the freakiest cryptard-worshipping sound you could imagine. But other than that, nothing. So far, I know of zero typical Bungie-stuff in Destiny. If they put one in, where else would they put it than in their highly acclaimed raid? Your thoughts, forum? Kind regards, PiRaNhA BE EDIT #1: As Roxas 144 pointed out; the extra blocks in the puzzle are activated by entering the cave to the left of the starting platform. Thanks!
