Building your own Exotic weapon: once reaching light level 20 you gain the ability to build your own exotic.
The player will choose from a base common weapon (level 1) of any type (e.g. Hand cannon)
The player must then kill enemies level 20 or greater with it (difficult at first obviously)
As the player kills more the weapon raises in power, (levelling it up) until it is the same strength as an exotic weapon.
As the weapon is being levelled up, the player can choose specific upgrades, but will have to upgrade like a normal weapon (e.g. With ascendant energy etc)
However the the weapon inherits traits of the type of enemy it kills (for example the type of damage; void,solar,arc) so that the player doesn't have full control, although the weapon shapes intend into the players traits/habits
This way the weapon will be unique and special to you, and maybe even players will have a bond with their weapon

Awesome idea! Possibly have a choice to spend your collected light levels into a weapon you build to make it an exotic. Then be able yo actually make your legend with each item you personally make to you. Its not like you can just give them away yo other players. It will be yours and only yours.

Pretty much motes of light or the light level you gather from armor upgrades. Effectively sending you back to 20 and you must grow back to 30 or what ever to make another armor or weapon exotic. Make it so you really have to be come a legend not in two weeks have a full set of everything.

You know I'm so temped to get together a team and build a gaming company from scratch, I'm sure there would be enough people to do it, We would make are game purely by what the people want For example we would have a poll of what genre it would be: rpg mmo etc Then what setting: medieval, scifi etc Etc etc etc And providing this system is followed and we receive enough funding, we could make an awesome game

This is what gaming companies need to do. You're a brilliant person, and I think that if you wanted to do this, you could make it somewhere. Good luck if you're serious about it, I'll be cheering for you and donating whenever possible if needed.

Well the story doesn't have to be written by one individual, there could be many writers? Normally this could be a bad thing but once again a story (or aspects of a story) could be voted on by a group of people (lending to the whole idea of what everyone wants)

Maybe you can only make an exotic weapon like this by first reaching level 30? I feel like exotics would [i]really[/i] be way too common if they started becoming earnable through this method starting at level 20. That do you think?

make it level 25/26 to start. high enough so that everyone doesn't do it easily and low enough to make it possible for non-level-30's. also, weapons on sparrows, customization, class specific, whatever. be cool to be able to ride your sparrow through raid instead of having to "find" a pike - also make raid fireteam makeup more diverse (1 with 50 cal, 1 with missles, etc.). maybe sparrow races with weapons - like death race instead of death match?

I agree, but then at least there'd be less hardcore gamers complaining about all the casuals having exotics. It's so hard to please both.

Well the more casual fan base can easily require normal exotics through normal means [spoiler]remove the metroid idea it will never be allowed due to copyrights etc :/ [/spoiler]

I know, the Metroid idea was just for fun. Though, keep in mind that some Nintendo mascots have made appearances on games of other consoles.
