Yet again the Destiny community proves itself to be wrong yet again and trying to spread these ridiculous tactics like kill LESS mobs to get to the reward screen to get more rewards faster! When I played Diablo 3 and grind to 100 Paragon, we didn't operate on such stupidity. We figured out how to kill MORE and do it FASTER, therefore making it more EFFICIENT.
Speedrunning strikes by skipping low+high lvl mobs is NOT EFFICIENT for loot. I don't really care what bounty you're there for or marks you're grinding. I grind for marks too but when I go into a strike, I play as a team and that means I'm going to be there killing stuff. Now you can either kill stuff with me so we can get this done FASTER and thereby INCREASING our chances for loot, or you can skip it and do it all yourself. That's your call. Like I've said previously, I don't mind skipping the low level free roam stuff, but once it says respawn restricted and the mobs are level 24, I don't skip that stuff.
To address some of the OP's points though, the 24 strikes do not have a higher drop rate of engrams, at least not off of mobs. They have a higher rate of engrams on reward, however his idea is not completely wrong. The more stufff you kill and the faster you do it, the more loot you get which increases your odds of getting a legendary item. However, where I disagree is killing the low level free roam mobs. I don't kill those things and I go straight for the respawn restricted zone. Once there, THEN I will kill everything.

Yeah, I don't care about engram drops. I'm missing only 6 exotic armors, and a couple exotic weapons. I earn over 30 strange coins a week guaranteed, and will shortly not even need them beyond using them for maybe synthesis. I get drops from VoG normal X3, and hard X3 soon. 3 weekly nightfalls and 21 or so dailies if I do them all. Plus 21 daily world events. I have absolutely no reason to care about the random junk, when there are so many guaranteed ways to get Legendary and Exotic gear. I didn't even do loot cave at all, because that would be boring as crap. I did way too many 24 lvl strikes on my first character, soloed it frequently (not enough were doing it/high enough level, so it'd start with just me after a while), and have no interest in dragging out run number fifty something. Someone wants to stay behind and kill, fine, as long as they are doing something. If they want me to slow down, not likely unless they seem pretty competent. Otherwise I know it's easier to leave them in the dust to make the run easier. Doing the tank with people acting stupid just makes it that much easier for the tank to shoot you. Going from 0 shots to any is a definite step down in skill. As for ruining your chance to farm their kills from distance, why aren't you jumping on a speeder to catch up? Mars alone would mean you get that whole initial room where you can respawn and kill the mobs, while they would be clearing the 3 bosses and tank for you. Which means you can speeder through that and reach the next spot to get some kills. That means reduced time, which kills your whole theory of efficiency through everyone killing along the way. Because you actually skip wasting time on the tank boss, meaning your over-all kills vs. time has a good chance of being higher if they rush and finish it for you.

This isn't Diablo. Loot caves were the closest to Diablo like farming. That got nerfed. It's much more effective to race to vendor bought pieces by speed running missions. Especially since win screen provides engrams as well, and nothing green. You are actually taking a pointless reward option out by racing to iWin screen.
Speedrunning strikes by skipping low+high lvl mobs is NOT EFFICIENT for loot
However it is EFFICIENT if you are getting REP, bounties, and vanguard marks. Since the loot system is complete RNG the most EFFICIENT way would be to grind mobs during patrol.
-
problem with grinding mobs during patrol is that other people mess it up. That's not very efficient. Like I said, rep/bounties/marks or whatever, everyone's there for that. So faster that people KILL stuff and MORE stuff that people kill = more loot. You want a fine balance of loot from random engrams you pick up + random engrams as reward as well as guaranteed rewards through marks + rep.
-
you could always solo farm any story instance on lvl 20+ if efficient farming is what you want, why do it in strikes? (I dont really care about this argument, just trying to add perspective)

Edited by coffeerox: 10/6/2014 3:37:56 PMYou're not getting it. You're averaging MORE ENGRAMS if you kill everything in respawn restricted zones + bosses. If you do this process FASTER and more EFFICIENT, you get MORE LOOT. How do you think I farm for strange coins? I don't do it by skipping level appropriate mobs I'll tell you that. You end up with maybe 1 or 2 unidenitified engrams but guess how much I end up with? Double that and then start adding up overall engrams acquired and with the fixing of the Cryptarch, I end up getting more Strange Coins + Motes of Light and Legendary items than you do. The problem with the Destiny community is that I'm always AHEAD of the curve with the latest and most efficient strategies but everytime I try to inform people, people always come back with inefficient, illogical and bandwagon strategies that I've heard a million times. Therefore I always appear antagonistic towards everyone cause people DON'T LISTEN! They'd rather have their get rich quick schemes and then realize weeks down the line they've been doing it all wrong all along, just like the loot cave. You think I've been farming the loot cave? LOL
-
Wow u suck at not coming off arrogant
-
Coffeerox - you have almost 7 days in your main, I have less than 12 hours in my alt character and have further progress than you (higher amount of light). Please do not give tips on how to be EFFICIENT because you are clearly one of the most INEFFICIENT players in Destiny.

I blame ADHD
-
Oh I get what you are saying. I think you're the one who doesn't get what I'm saying. Everyone has their way of playing and not everyone wants to spend hours in the same strike. And most "speed" groups I've seen always cleared restricted area mobs. You can do what you said just as well in story instances where you dont need others to conform is what I was saying, I was only trying to make you look at it from another perspective which you clearly don't want to. /end of discussion (I hate losing time talking to walls)
-
I get what you're saying by doing story missions but I have a good memory of the story missions having repeated them recently and very few of them are efficient for farming. The strikes are more efficient b/c you get the rewards screen + the dropped engrams. I'm not asking people to spend hours in the same strike. That's inefficient. I'm talking about quick clears with more kills. That's what I'm talking about. I don't think I like this new get rich quick scheme and I can see it ruining the game real quick all because a hive mind thinks it's the best but actually not.

Edited by Corvyn: 10/6/2014 2:14:51 PMIt doesnt matter whether you kill the lvl 24 mobs or the trash, it all has a chance to drop a legendary or a green. If you wanna farm trash you can easily do that on your own time. I'm much more inclined to push through what we have to and continue on. This isnt Diablo. Loot in Diablo isnt given to you at the end of a mission, it primarily just drops. The bounties and rewards for finishing are typically just better. That's why we're matchmaking in the first place. If you want to just grind trash for RNG there's places to do that, you don't have to drag along two other people with more direct aims than you have.
-
And loot in this game doesn't primarily just drop? LOL! It's the same system whether you like it or not. 3 people shooting at mob is faster than 1 person shooting at a mob, therefore killing as many level appropriate enemies (yes I am well aware that loot is scaled to you and not mobs) in the strike as possible and as fast as possible, = higher chance of dropping loot and getting to rewards screen just as fast. You're missing out on loot for no reason if you skip the respawn restricted mobs UNLESS you're doing Devil's Lair Fallen Walker.
-
This still leads back to the balance between guaranteed rewards and luck-based rewards. If the guaranteed reward outweighs the (low) potential for a random reward, people will not spend twice as long grinding through trash-mobs "just in case". Right now, I need to complete 25 Strikes. I'm frankly not worried about what "might" drop, because I still have to kill a fair number of trash-mobs to finish anyway, and I'm much more concerned with receiving my exotic at the end. If you wanna kill trash, find players who want to do the same. I don't, and my motives for it aren't less efficient because of it, just different than yours.
-
There is no balance of guaranteed rewards and luck based rewards. You get your 100 marks, you do your rep and you get your guaranteed reward. Beyond that (which is where I am at the moment) the marks and rep are useless and the random engrams become more important than the marks and rep. The marks and rep can be farmed efficiently so long as people do the strike the way it was meant to be done. I'm not worried about that. What I am worried about are these get rich quick mofos wanting to see the reward screen faster. I don't agree with that at all. It's not a matter of opinion, it's objective fact that they're getting less loot and they're trying to punish me for it. I'm not gonna play that way, sorry. You better hope you find someone that joins during the boss cause I'd quit that run before you catch me skipping stuff. What I'm saying is that as long as you're doing everything efficiently, it doesn't matter if you skip mobs or not. It's going to be fast and you get MORE stuff for doing it that way. We all have our different motives for doing the strikes. Mine is to farm fusion rifles for the bounty. I need a lot of engrams for that purpose. Killing stuff fast and clearing stuff fast is what I can help others do, but you can't ask me to skip level appropriate mobs.
-
Ahh.. So what this comes down to is that people arent playing the way you want to, and that makes them wrong. Everyone is being painted with the same brush, presumed to have the same motives for joining a strike, but if they're not there for the same reason you are, they aren't doing it right. You not receiving enough engrams for your bounty is really not any other player's problem. If you need to farm them so badly, either invite your matchmade group to a party and ask them to kill everything, or find a place to farm that doesnt require you complaining about the way other players play an open-ended game. As it stands, there will be no success for this thread in changing anyone's mind. Unless you talk to people in-game, you can't know their motives and they can't know yours. There is no wrong way to complete a strike, because the mission outline only says, "go kill this guy." Not, "kill everything between you and the guy cause it might help."
-
It's not a matter of me playing the way I want to, it's a matter of playing it the way it was designed. With that said, I might as well not respond to you anymore.
-
No you really shouldnt, because you have what you feel is the "right" opinion and nothing's going to change that. The effective approach would be talking to your teammates instead of telling everyone they're "wrong" on a forum. I hope that goes well for you.

Edited by Sithisvoid666: 10/6/2014 2:09:53 PMI paid for the game I'll play how i like. Don't like it? Go cry into your pillow no one cares.

Impatience. I like to enjoy the game for what it is...take my time...combine kill bounties with strike bounties..get it all done in one shot.

this isn't diablo..... post invalidated...
-
Edited by coffeerox: 10/6/2014 1:28:15 PMYou can't invalidate my post without reasoning beyond "it isn't diablo" The loot cave and the cryptarch prove more than anything it's based on the same principles. That it's based on kills per hour (per minute or whatever) and you take that loot to the identifier to see if you got something good. Same thing, different name. All the same principles of efficiency applies, if you're smart enough to use them.
-
strikes are for grinding rep and marks quickly period... you want to kill endless waves of mobs for rng loot that may never drop, do it on your own time, or put a fire team together outside of the playlist. this isn't diablo, loot doesn't work the same way here, diablo actually has a better system. go look at my gear, had most of it within the first 2 weeks of play, taking my time in strikes wasn't the way I did it....
-
Well you should make fire teams if you plan on rushing. Joining a strike with randoms and forcing them to rush makes you a dick. Once you get to the respawn point it automatically teleports the team to you. That's called being selfish.
-
well judging by these replies to this post and others like it there are quite a few people who want speed runs and les so who want to trudge through every worthless mob... so I would say the selfish one are the ones like you....
