This is what the game industry has become, and we have no right to complain about it because we all contributed to this. anytime we bought a dlc for a few maps in call of duty, any time we paid for micro transactions, anytime we sat there as watched other do it and said nothing about it. its gave every publisher the green light to make even more money. do i blame them? a little bit, but most of my blame falls on all of us as gamers for letting this get so bad in the first place. how can I blame of company for making money in a practice we have already deemed to be alright?

  • I'm done with Battlefield after the way the last game was rolled out completely broken. I refuse to buy another one of their games. If things don't turn around quick, Ive moved to the side that will boycott Bungie/Activision. I supported the game from day one, but after this info came out, I don't see how you can say they've done anything BUT cut the game to pieces for profit ending up with a lacking game. I thought the narrative was part of their design, but clearly it wasn't.

In business, actions always speaks louder than words. Most of these kids don't understand economics and product development... If they did, then the video game industry would probably support different business models that would appeal to the market, because we would have voted by not buying DLCs in the past. To be honest, I don't actually have a problem with DLC content in general. Sure, Destiny's specific case sounds fishy and it seems like Bungie/Activison are being greedy, but it's still conjecture at this point. The part I don't agree with is people's right to complain. If we lived in a world where customers were not allowed complain about the quality of a product, then products would never improve. While I still think actions are louder than words, complaints don't go unnoticed by companies. However, if your motive is vindictive in nature, then your best tool is to 1) get off this forum, 2) sell your game/uninstall it, and 3) tell your friends how disappointed you are with Destiny. That affects future sales, which is what keeps the suits up at night.

I was perhaps a little blunt and ignorant with the "no right to complain bit", as many games have been completely fixed through complaining. look at FF XIV. Thank you for humbling me

  • While I agree with some of what you are saying, there is a big difference between paying extra for DLC maps/useless micro transactions and cutting the core game into pieces and then selling it as DLC. This is the equivalent of a game like The Walking Dead selling each episode as though it is a complete game in itself. For $70 you should be entitled to a little more than a fraction of the core game.

  • Some of those useless micro transactions are not useless. The whole reason the phone market is a multi-billion market is due to small micro transactions for extra lives or power ups. Games with pay to win mechanics could also be cited. The only difference between these destiny dlc, which come with a 3 maps (only one less than call of duty) and pve content, and any other game is that these might be on the disc already, which has already been done and millions have already paid for, which just further proves my point.

  • Like I said, cutting up the game is nothing new at all, and we have already condoned it.

  • Fraction of the core game? What are you referring to?

  • I'm referring to the fact that the story that we received as part of the game is a fraction of the story to be told. We received a very small piece of the story and will only be able to get story through purchasing DLC by the sounds of it.

  • Who decides what the "core game" is? Who is the one who decides how much story to tell?

  •
Who decides what the "core game" is? Who is the one who decides how much story to tell?
You basically summed up why I feel like this is all conjecture. If Bungie comes out with DLCs that really don't tell much of the story, then what? Is it because they are saving it for the sequel to Destiny? Is it because they ran out of time? Is it because they suck at writing? Who knows, except for Bungie, what is complete and what is core? And, it's unlikely that they are not going to spoil the surprise (if there even is one.)

  • There will be a surprise. Bungie knows how to tell a story. They've just never had to do it like this. Telling a story with an "mmo-like" world is alot harder than doing it the way it was done in Halo. In Halo, there's no limits to the kind of story you can tell because you can go anywhere and do anything you want to do and break them into levels, but in Destiny, they have to tell the story in the "mmo-like" world they've created. Basically, you make one big level and then put the stories into it.They've talked about this before the game released as being a challenge in their GDC press conference back in March 2013. Bungie felt this game in its current state was enough to be called a full release, and I agree. I have plenty to do. I would rather be in this world than in BF4 or in COD. There's more attachment to a character. You can actually build a character, your armor choices have meaning, you have talent choices, and ALL THESE choices effect crucible as well, and then you can see each other's characters in an actual game world! Battlefield feels so limited to me now. And I know this game has so much lore. I feel the reason they made the grimoire the way they did wasn't to cut it out of the game and just throw it online, but to let everyone know after the initial launch, don't worry, we have more of a story to tell and here's a glimpse. MMOs work this way. They don't just give you the entire story up front and then move onto the next game project. They have multiple stories to tell. It's like World of Warcraft or Star Wars.
