Anyone ever think that this is happening because games are costing more money to make? No? The average last generation story game cost 60$, now people want way more than that on this gen still for 60$, and nobody expected companies to do this?

  • Games don't get more expensive, their employees just keep getting paid more...there is no resource besides man hours for making digital content....sure there are physical compiles but those cost under 50c to make (disk, box, paper)

  • Man hours. You just shot yourself in the foot with this argument. Last gen games were about 8GB, Destiny is 19GB on "next gen". Initial cost was still only $60. If anything that's a great value for the additional man hours required to make this game. And another thing, for you to criticize developer pay checks is shallow, sounds like you're just jealous you're in the wrong industry.

  • No not at all, all these arguments go on about resources used....it's just people at computers that's it. But if in wrong please tell me what resource goes into a computer besides hours of time?

  • What? I said a game more than double the size than last gen games costs more man hours to produce, which would mean paying the same $60 would be of better value... But since you've embarked down this road... the cost to setup and maintain the infrastructure required to support always online server clusters for multiple platforms of an online game is immense. The physical floor space for the servers (even virtualized requires a footprint), servers themselves, electricity to power the servers, electricity to power the A/C units to cool the servers, ISP costs, and even more man hours to setup and maintain the environment. Add to this the exceptional cost of developing a AAA game in the first place, and you start to realize $60 is a pretty damn good deal. Not to mention the cost of running a business. You clearly haven't got a clue. TL;DR: You are not being fleeced.

  • Destiny was the most preordered game of all time and made 500 million dollars in the first week. There's no excuse for them to do this. None at all.

  • You think they were anticipating that? You think they decided to "cut" the content last minute?

Actually yes I do because one of the pay wall locked missions on earth is fully designed and fully populated with enemy units, including a unique boss at the end called Ultra Captain, but you can't actually trigger the mission; all they're selling you is a few MB worth of unlock key, they are not selling you anything you don't technically already have in your disc. No matter how expensive the game was, this is inexcusable. If expense was really a concern, they wouldn't have developed those missions in the first place and waited for the game to ship. And if a multi billion dollar corporation can't afford to develop an expensive triple a game, then they're at risk of bankruptcy. As this is Bungie/activision , this isn't the case. There's no way you can slice this in a good way.

  • How so? The proof that the expansions are already on the disc is as accurate as that the Beta was already on your console after you downloaded the few MB launch screen. As for content already in the game, that will most likely be the free content we'll see activated by a limited time event.

It isn't. The ultra captain and other areas are the areas locked behind the expansions. The recent bugged PS4 video revealed the expansions as being coded into the game already, in areas that are fully designed and accessible (via glitching ), but are blocked off from typical exploration until you pay for the 9.5 MB unlock key. Again, the important thing to note is the tiny size of the expansion downloads. They're only the size of a few assets, like trees maybe, no where near enough to be the download for entire raids, strikes and stories. This is because all of that is already on the disc, they're just selling you the unlock keys, effectively making you buy something you already bought.

  • If it's already ready why can't we have it

Who ever said it was "ready"? Beta was a small download and didn't download the 10 gigabytes until you launched the game.
wait... don't tell me that I just concluded this whole -blam!-ing mess...
