....Sorry, I think he meant, "On disk DLC". I highly doubt that's worth defending. Seriously, Capcom was pelted with shit for doing it with MvC3.

  • And yet developers are still doing it. Not because developers are evil money grubbing jerkwads, but because it's a convenience to consumers, illogical to do it otherwise and the only people who are upset are a minority of entitled gamers.

But here's the thing: The customer paid for the content on the disk. Don't you think it's rather unfair for that technically paid for content to be locked behind a snippet of code? Asking for it isn't entitlement, it's asking to play all of the game the customer paid for.
The customer paid for the content on the disk.
The customer paid for the game. The game is contained on the disc. But there are other things on the disc, things that they didn't pay for. They shouldn't have, and aren't given, access to that.
Don't you think it's rather unfair for that technically paid for content to be locked behind a snippet of code?
If it's content that is actually paid for? Yes. But DLC on the disc with the game isn't paid for when the game is bought.
Asking for it isn't entitlement, it's asking to play all of the game the customer paid for.
And gamers do have everything to play that they paid for.

Whether it's on a disk or on a download, the customer paid for the content in the disk/download. They shouldn't pay for what's already in the disk/download. If it's incomplete then there should be a free update completing the incomplete content, or it should be presented at a price lower than full DLC costs. If it's to open a door/remove a barrier, then it's unjustified paying DLC price for a door opener. You're arguing semantics, which really isn't going anywhere. [Edit]: And when I mean everything, I mean Everything. If there's a DLC skin for a character that's on disk/download and isn't incomplete, that's unjustified. Same with raids, bosses and weapons. [Edit 2]: Did you just edit your post to correct what I addressed? Rather shady way of doing things isn't it? Kinda like what I'm talking about? Also, when you're addressing things that people shouldn't be given acces to, you are making no sense. If you're referring to the compiled code, that's protected by copyright. But if you're addressing content of the game that's been intentionally made inaccessible, it should either be unfinished, or cause game breaking issues for it to be made inaccessible so the rest of the gameplay isn't effected. I've seen content of the DLC areas, they don't look like the game's about to disintegrate around it. So, why seal it off? Is it unfinished? The area looks playable, there's enemies and bosses in it, so it's rather finished looking. Wait, why am I even arguing with you? You're just going to pull another contrived reason out of thin air, so why should I bother?

  •
Whether it's on a disk or on a download, the customer paid for the content in the disk/download
No they didn't. And you thinking contrarily doesn't change that fact. They paid for the game and they got the game. But the game doesn't mean everything on the disc. And you should read the back of the game box sometime. By opening and playing the game you agree to the developer/publishers EULA. Which specifically states that you're not buying the game but instead are being given a liscence to it. The developer/publisher sets the rules and is largely immune to everything except the most serious cases of fraud (Aliens CM.)
Did you just edit your post to correct what I addressed? You're just going to pull another contrived reason out of thin air, so why should I bother?
:| You do realize that even if you could successfully argue your position to a court of law and get a favorable ruling the first thing developers and publishers are going to do is exactly what they are doing right now; finishing the game and DLC before certification. Just instead of stamping both into the disc, they'll just sit on the DLC and release it as a big GB download after the game launches. Nothing changes, except the customer gets dicked over since the DLC has to actually be fully downloaded and installed to the hard drive instead of being read from the disc. But at least you get your satisfaction of having "everything" on the disc you bought. And the OP, the OP-OP, has still failed to prove that this content was part of the original game but was removed by order of either someone at Bungie or Activision to be sold at a later date. All he has proven is that the DLC, or most of it since 10MB downloads for an unlock key is too much, is on the disc waiting to be unlocked/completed.

....You really aren't getting the point. The customer paid for everything in the instance/disk/download/whatever you want to call it, they paid for it. Just because it's technically legal, doesn't mean it's right, or in the customers best interests. You're right about what they'd do if this was a post that could be presented in a court of law though. Just shows how scummy the AAA gaming industry is unfortunately. Heck, they probably are doing it. But, regardless, making the DLC before the game is complete and not including it (again unless it's game breaking or incomplete) or making it intentionally inaccessible despite it being finished isn't justified. You have your opinion, I have mine. So I'll just be moving on to spend my time better elsewhere.

  • The expansions are keys to unlock the DLC on the disk and make it accessible to play... as well as the new armory stuff plus it contains exclusive themes for your system... hence the reason they're 9 bucks a pop and not even 10Mb
