From what i have observed in the forums i think most people saying they dont like Destiny have no MMO exp so i was curious if i'm right about that. MMO Exp - played World of Warcraft, Guild Wars or some type of MMO not games like Mass Effect Fallout or Borderlands for those not clear on what im defining as MMO Exp

  • Tbh people who say destiny is bad are most likely the people who anticipate it being more like an mmo when they joined and where let down by the lack of mmo features. And ppl without mmo experience will see this as another game and will not over hype the experience so they will enjoy it more

    • Here is, what I think, Destiny is lacking when it comes to MMOs: Lack of social aspect: you cannot effectively communicate with randoms in game, without using the console interface. The heart of a MMO lies in this feature. Being able to connect and chat with people during your down time, or to easily search for a group to do instances or missions with, is not only beneficial, but necessary. A large amount of players sharing a space: now, I am aware that there are not 16 million players at the moment, but I would like to think there are more than 15. Separating players into manageable groups is safe, but it is not MMO. I have had to do events on my own, in what is an open area where there should be more than one player...yet there was maybe one other person. I really like playing this game, but I feel that if it wants a long run with an influx of new players, it will be important to incorporate the MMO elements into the world.

      • I have always been interested in MMO games but was always scared to jump in to these long standing titles like WoW. I have a basic understanding of MMOs and I'm a HUGE science fiction lover and I love that Destiny has given me the opportunity to jump in with everyone else from day one. I find the game to be fantastic even with its numerous flaws. I look forward to seeing this universe that bungie has created grow and evolve.

      • FF14 since launch. My first MMO. Destiny falls short as a MMO. They said it was not a MMO. It plays like a MMO that needs work.

          • I think Destiny is where MMORPGS need to go. The most recent ones I've played like Old Republic, Wildstar, Elder Scrolls, etc have been pretty bland for me and really lacked the epicness to keep me intrigued and playing. Though yes, I do agree to some degree like the other commenters about it having more social aspects like a chat feature. Perhaps only for clan because bloody hell general chat..? You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

            • I've played almost every MMO game released. Plus Skyrim, Fallout 3, Halo series, Borderlands, COD, BF3, Warhawk and Starhawk. The first games that came to mind while playing: Marathon and Halo. A lot of concepts pulled from Marathon (Semi-creepy, lots of dark elements) Textures very similar to that of past Halo games with alien tech. Sparrow reminds me of the Ghosts in Halo. I've spent the last 10 years involved in some kind of MMO, NOT JUST WORLD OF FREAKIN WARCRAFT, this game doesn't feel like an MMO to me... This is all the stuff they've learned making Halo, plus adding an original and good story, giving us characters to grow and get sweet gear. They've evolved in their dev style... To those who say differently, quit bitching, leave the forums right now. Sell your game, get your $25 and GTFO.

            • I get a sour taste in my mouth when people mention mmorpg and Destiny in the same sentence. If anything it's a game with 10% of a mmo design in it.

Compared to MMOs I'd say Destiny isn't much better, but it's far from worse. It does things differently, to that end Bungie deserve praise, but that doesn't mean they're even done well. Its story telling, group content and player interactivity aren't great but I find most MMOs up until now haven't really nailed down what makes great dungeon and raid design. We'll see how raids go next week though! What I think it does better is its combat, progression and player versus player content, and being an FPS it's interesting to see some new life breathed into the genre. One can't compare Destiny to MMOs entirely when this game and the genre differ quite a bit, but I think Destiny is good and bad in its own right rather than what it does and doesn't do well according to some arbitrary rules of a genre.

              • I strongly feel that those who bash on the game May most likely be solo players who que up with randoms and think they're the shit
