If there are swords they have been kept under VERY tight wraps, with only one mention that I could find, in the weekly update, saying one was claimed from an ancient grotto.
EDIT: That said, I want a sword. Gotta be good though. Maybe multiple types of swords, some with faster swing speeds, lower damage, big slow swords etc.
