This last week was horrible for all gamers

Article has plenty of links to events and more details about why this past week was so terrible for gamers, but here's some highlights of what's happened in the last week: 1) A game designer's personal life was exposed to the internet, and used to justify physical threats to both the developer and her colleagues. 2) The PlayStation Network was shut down by a DDoS attack from someone who also threatened to blow up an airliner with president of Sony Online Entertainment onboard. 3) A designer's personal information and online accounts including banking information and other personal details were hacked into and spread over the internet. 4) A Counter-Strike player was SWATed at his school while livestreaming, prompting a lockdown of the school. 5) A media critic posted a video about violence against women in games and had death and -blam!- threats sent to her and her family. I understand that people get passionate about things, but this recent wave of hacking and threats of extreme violence is making me ashamed to call myself a gamer. I know a lot of people are pissed off over Zoe Quinn, and Anita Sarkeesian has always had a ton of detractors but why all the escalation to this point? This isn't so much about the content of our games but the people who play them. Are we contributing to a culture of violence here?

    1) She deserved every bit of it. By making her stuff no longer personal but affecting businesses and then consumers it's her own fault. Don't forget it was never about her personal life (that is what people who don't read into the real truth keep saying) but rather the abuse in the gaming industry by people like her who can skew reviews and lie to re-direct consumers falsely. I am glad places like Kotaku now REQUIRE any journalists to disclose any groups or projects they fund publicly so this shady crap of reviewing a game they are endorsing and giving it false reviews can no longer happen. 3) That is the fez 2 guy who cursed his fans out and hates gamers right? I see no loss here. You act like a jerk to people on the internet you are messing with the wrong people. Glad we won't see him again. Maybe if he wasn't so much of an idiot and spewed so much hatred towards others he might not have found himself in such a predicament. I have no remorse for people like him who clearly hate people who got him to where he was and then turns around and acts like a Class A jerk and then some. Do I endorse people spreading his personal info? No, but something was bound to happen whether it be that or something else. I'd rather see the trash get taken out than a good person in the gaming industry get messed with so works for me. 5) More like a liar who opposes any and all open-discussion and spreads her junk around making gamers look like misogynist losers when it's anything but the truth. Her incessant "la la la my words are the only way! gamers hate women la la la!" will only stir the bee hive and thus it did. If you go on a public platform, spew nonsense, and refuse to hear criticism or see other point of views from logical and smarter people, you are asking for something to occur. Those threats are her own doing. I would never believe a thing she said anyways.
