People still think you have to upgrade frequently just to stay in the game? You're either building with parts that are already outdated or you don't know what you're doing and are wasting money.
I've been gaming with the same PC for 3-4 years and I don't even need to upgrade it yet, I'm choosing to do so because my budget was tight when I built this PC and I want something stronger. The next PC I make will last 10 years if I choose to wait that long, but why do that when I can upgrade it whenever I want?
That's the thing with consoles, I don't have anything against them because I play on console, but after a few years the hardware isn't as magnificent as it once seemed when it first came out. 360/PS3 seemed amazing when it first came out, but years later you could tell it wasn't as amazing as we thought because technology is advancing so fast it makes anything older look bad. With PC gaming this isn't a problem because you don't have to accept outdated hardware for a decade.
tl;dr, PCs don't have to be upgraded so frequently, that's a choice the player makes. A few years from now the PS4/X1 will start to look slow compared to PC because of how fast technology is advancing. Doesn't mean consoles are bad, they just aren't as good.
