The issue with the Warthog for me was that it was just not as good looking as the Reach one. My problem with the H4 scope was that horrible green filter slapped over the top
Now the Pelican on the other hand, is just a regression from everything that came before it:
1). the Mi - 24 inspired swing open bubble canopy isn't the best idea for a Spacecraft. You'd usually want something more re-enforced in case of decompression, or at least be able to have some kind of emergency shielding cover the canopy (Which really isn't possible on the current design.
2). The cabin is designed in such away that while the Pilot isn't completely separated from the rest of the cabin, the only real way for the pilot to enter his seat is through the canopy, otherwise you'd have to climb over seats in an incredibly tight cockpit. This creates a situation where if the pilot is essentially cut of from the rest of the craft, and if something were to happen to said pilot the rest of the occupants are -blam!-ed (Similarly, scenes where Chief looks out at the Ark and Six and Carters last face to face would be impossible)
3). The loading ramp. Why the hell did they have to make it so -blam!-ing big? With the Halo 4 Pelican, there is no way there can be a rapid deployment of troops. Moments in past Halo games such as the opening of Silent Cartographer would be impossible. If the ramp was out, it would create so much drag on the Pelican that it would have trouble flying, and if they waited till touching down before opening the ramp, everyone in the Pelican would probably get killed before they could even get out. Not to mention that if the thing is carrying anything the ramp can't open (Making scenes like the beginning of the Covenant impossible)
4). Those -blam!-ing turrets on the gunship. They're right underneath the engines, are completely exposed . Also, let me remind you that the Pelican is a spacecraft that travels through the atmosphere. You'd need to be suicidal to use the bloody things. FFS, WWII bomber turrets were safer to use. Remote controlled turrets from the interior + the folding turret from previous models would be so much better.
5). Where did the -blam!-ing wheels go? Most military aircraft have wheels, even VTOL capable ones, have wheels so they can be moved around without the pilot present (Like if they need to move if a few feet away, or into a Hangar) I'm also sure not every place in the UNSC has a pedestal for each Pelican like on the Infinity, or crane or pilot always there when they need to be moved.
tl:dr H4 pelican is an insult to the concept
