Just wanted to point it out here to anyone that hasn't heard yet - Bungie has confirmed that beta characters will be reset when the game launches. Even though it would have been cool to keep our heros this will be a good fresh start for everyone to try a new class or change a cosmetic option they didn't like. Launch can't come soon enough.
