Are erectile dysfunction medications still covered, though?
If so, it's a blatant conflict.

Last I heard, that's a medical condition. Where's the correlation? - Der
-
So are severe menstrual cramps and pains, which some birth controls treat effectively.
-
If it's medically necessary, sure. But that's not what we're talking about here. Also, there are other ways to treat this issue that don't involve birth control. - Der
-
But that's not what we're talking about here.
except it is.

No, the issue in the SCOTUS case was that Hobby Lobby, while paying for 16 different kinds of birth control (Hormonal, the type you are referring to for cramp relief included) did not want to pay for 4 or so types they felt were abortion drugs. The Obama administration said that was unacceptable, so they ended up in court. Hobby Lobby won and now will continue providing the 16 non-abortion drugs they always had, but not the abortion drugs they were opposed to. - Der
they felt
except they aren't doctors or scientists, so they should shut the fuck up.

Get a grip kid. Are you a Doctor or a Scientist? Maybe you should take your own advice. The court ruled, get over yourself. - Der
Are you a Doctor or a Scientist? Maybe you should take your own advice.
except my position supports coverage for whoever wants it. Don't like some contraceptives? Don't elect to use them. Fine. That doesn't mean it's cool to tell other people not to use them, who may want to use them. "I'm on a diet, so you can't eat that doughnut"

They just don't want to pay for it, as it violates their beliefs. This has nothing to do with access, just who pays for it. - Der
-
as it violates their beliefs.
but the person who wants/needs it shouldn't be subject to the beliefs of the provider [the business]. The business isn't distributing or even handling the contraceptives they "don't believe in," they're just the employer.
This has nothing to do with access, just who pays for it.
Some might argue that not being covered by your health plan makes it significantly less accessible.

Edited by Der Todesengel: 7/1/2014 4:51:28 AM
but the person who wants/needs it shouldn't be subject to the beliefs of the provider [the business].
Why not? The owner isn't allowed to act on their beliefs?
Some might argue that not being covered by your health plan makes it significantly less accessible.
Then work somewhere else or suck it up and pay for your own. No one is forcing anyone to work for Hobby Lobby. - Der
Why not? The owner isn't allowed to act on their beliefs?
No, because the employee may not share the beliefs of the owner[s]. It's fine if the owner doesn't like certain contraceptives. It's their choice to not use them. If I worked at a Jewish company, I shouldn't be forced to keep kosher in my own house, where it's none of their business. I'm getting paid from them, and I'll spend my money how I want.
Then work somewhere else or suck it up and pay for your own. No one is forcing anyone to work for Hobby Lobby.
In a time when the job market still hasn't recovered in many areas, that really isn't an option for a lot of people.
I'm getting paid from them, and I'll spend my money how I want.
Well there you go, spend YOUR OWN MONEY... I don't see how the Hobby Lobby birth control situation is even comparable to your hypothetical.
In a time when the job market still hasn't recovered in many areas, that really isn't an option for a lot of people.
Then I guess maybe paying a few dollars for your BC isn't such a bad deal after all. - Der
-
Well there you go, spend YOUR OWN MONEY
the whole point to employer-subsidized health coverage is so I don't have to pay out-of-pocket for shit I need.
Then I guess maybe paying a few dollars for your BC isn't such a bad deal after all.
the contraceptives in question are not just "a few dollars"
-
the whole point to employer-subsidized health coverage is so I don't have to pay out-of-pocket for shit I need.
Lol, you seriously believe this?
the contraceptives in question are not just "a few dollars"
Google "plan B pill", around $50. How many times you planning on getting pregnant? - Der
Lol, you seriously believe this?
Um, what else is the point of employer benefits?
Google "plan B pill", around $50. How many times you planning on getting pregnant?
That's nice that you don't think $50 is expensive, but for some people it is.
