A business can now claim that hiring LGBT people goes against their religion. If you don't think that will happen, a few months ago Arizona tried to pass a bill that allowed business owners to claim religious right so they don't have to serve LGBT people.

 •
a few months ago Arizona tried to pass a bill that allowed business owners to claim religious right so they don't have to serve LGBT people.
Arizonan here; no we didn't. That false interpretation was what took the media by storm, but it wasn't the purpose or effect of the proposed bill.

 •
Republicans stressed that the bill is about protecting religious freedom and not discrimination. They frequently cited the case of a New Mexico photographer who was sued after refusing to take wedding pictures of a gay couple and said Arizona needs a law to protect people in the state from heavy-handed actions by courts and law enforcement.
Then what is it about?

 • Would you be supportive of a black-owned business denying service to KKK members?

 • That's a pretty big strawman. LGBT people are an oppressed minority fighting for basic rights while the KKK is a hate group that oppresses people for something they can't help.

 • You can't say that the principle matters when you're making exceptions.

 • This is quite possibly one of the dumbest things I've heard during this during an argument for equal rights.

 • Yeah, not a strawman

 • Considering your analogy compares the KKK to the LGBT population I'd say it is. One is a racist hate group that suppresses people for skin color. The LGBT population is a group of people being oppressed for their sexuality and gender. There's a colossal f*cking difference between getting basic rights and equality they don't have compared to straight people and being forced to serve horrible people that are part of a hate group that has killed and oppressed people for decades. If that is not the worst and most despicable analogy for this I don't know what is.

 • You do realize that most states already have this in place. In my area, three counties still allow a business to fire someone for being Gay.

 • Hiring =/= serving
