I've been meaning to do this for a while. When I was younger, I started one, but I got so invested in the species and backstory that I never started the story itself thus dropping the project.
Now, I think I have the capabilities and style to actually get something done.
I'll probably run some of the stuff by all of you if you're interested. If I enjoy writing it enough, I'll make series.
My English teacher would be so happy right now...
Edit: I'm starting to get the sense that people here like science-fiction for some reason. I have no idea why.
By the way, while some of the stories may have hopefulness in theme, they will more likely than not be dark in nature.

Write a basic story idea and then adapt it to a specific setting that you like. Like, think about a basic kidnapping story. Okay, so your hero has to get someone back, but what if it's set in a "sword and sorcery" type setting? Or what if it's set in East Berlin in the 1980s? You know, think simple first. Get a good story down, and the setting should only be used to enhance the plot or to move it along. Don't let the environment be the focus of your novel.

Edited by LowIQPlayz3445: 6/24/2014 12:57:38 AMHow about an post apocalyptic erotic scifi fantasy thriller murder mystery?

Write an erotica
-
Go with fantasy.
-
Go for it
-
I don't know what genre this may fit under (maybe adventure/action or modern era), but how about making a story with the main character being a thief. That could allow for some interesting character development.
-
Post-apocalyptic

I would say whichever setting you like the most or if you cant decide with that maybe whichever one gives you the most ideas and such?
-
I should be the main character.

Make a science fiction about me. In an accident, I broke one of my ribs and the x rays revealed that I am half man half skeleton.

Edited by Broseph Stalin: 6/23/2014 7:28:10 AMAn idea that just popped into my mind: Set in the 1960s/70s. At the height of the Cold War, an enigmatic organization known as the Flood is attempting to create a large foothold in Central America, a target of growing importance to both the US and Soviet Union. With seemingly bottomless pockets and a large private army at their disposal, the Flood intends to make their stake in Costa Rica, "a nation with no military." Fearing that the Flood us attempting to aid the Soviets, a team of Delta operators are sent in to stop the spread of Floodian influence in Costa Rica and to assassinate their leader. This probably goes without saying, but please make sure to make references to us.

Write some hot equine erotica.

Make an encyclopedia set. It's the only thing worth reading. After all, non-fiction doesn't mean 100% true!
-
Present day or near future.

Write a novel about a chef who just hit the millionaire club from his enterprising restaurants. One day he chops his fingers off in a food processor. The bloody food from the food processor gets thrown out, and gets eaten by a homeless man. This homeless man had every STD known to man. The chefs blood cured him. We find out this chefs blood has the power to cure any std. There is no way to recreate this. It's only his blood. Write about the government protecting him, but the first ever government overthrow happens when pharmaceutical companies want their hands on him. I could go on but you do the rest

I chose fantasy simply because that's what I'm doing at the moment. It isn't easy, and it's often difficult to find the time. To be honest, the most liberating advice I ever heard was to allow yourself to write terribly, since you'll edit 90% of it anyway.

Edited by GiantDad: 6/23/2014 7:06:11 AMSci-Fi is always great if you do it right. Look to Doctor Who for inspiration since you're not particularly aiming for a dark story. That being said, the Doctor has gone through some shit, and when that happens, the show completely 180's you.
