My view point is based on a couple different things.
1: While I see the appeal of prox chat, I find the idea of having to individually mute trolls, dumbasses, miscreants, social rejects, homophobic/racist 12 year-olds, and generally anyone annoying exceptionally tedious. Ever play WoW? Ask about Barrens chat sometime and you'll get the picture. I see the same thing happening in Destiny if prox chat is included, and it's very difficult to police those who would abuse the system, especially in a crowded environment where you won't necessarily be able to identify the person who is ruining your experience.
2: Prox chat would mean more data being transfered over you Internet connection. For those who have slower internet, that could mean lag. When you lag, you get frustrated. When you get frustrated, you throw tour controller and break it. And when you throw your controller and break it, your brother/sister/father/mother/wife/friend/conscience (for those that live alone) physically injures you and forces you to buy a new controller. Don't get physically injured and forced to buy a new controller.
Ok, #2 was a bit silly, but the reasoning is valid for those without decent internet. Who would want to be forced to not use a feature?
Reason 1 is actually my main concern. I have played many games that have had prox chat, and though many people don't abuse it, there will always be a number of them that will, and trying to discern who they are can be exceptionally difficult. This game is about being somewhat social, yes. If anything, I wouldn't mind a text based chat. But prox chat is never as fun, exciting, enthralling, or as beneficial as it may seem.
Hopefully this sheds some light on why i don't want prox chat. It's not just for me that i voted no.
