•

Great, but what are we discussing?

Tartarus calls Arby a heretic but Tartarus and the Prophets betrayed him beforehand so how does that make him a heretic? Heres another example: remember when Barbosa plotted a mutiny against Jack Sparrow but he survived, Barbosa calls Jack a traitor when Jack interfered with the ritual to lift the curse of those coins. Well isn't Barbosa the one who's a traitor for commiting a mutiny against Jack in the first place? (Sorry if I've confused you l, this is tedious to explain through typing)

 • In Barbarossa's case, it's the old 'History is written by the Victor'. And those pirates have a weird sense of honour anyway. So once a new captain came in, that was that. With the Prophets and Tartarus... The Brutes were very strong believers in the Great Journey. The Prophets were the ones supposed to guide them. Now, they couldn't possibly be wrong, could they? Like the 'Holy' Crusades the Roman Church waged for Jeruselum. 'This guy speaks for God, he says it's ok. We'll blindly follow him'. Tarty may have known, but he was in a postition of power and didn't give a crap. In the novel 'Contact Harvest', Tarty kills his uncle for control of the ship his uncle captained. He did it mainly because he didn't like his uncle's piety. That just proves he didn't care. Calling Arby a heretic was just a label, One: To rile up the religious folk. Two: To confuse Arby and possibly annoy him, because he had been extremely devoted to his religion, to the point of being willing to die for it at the start of Halo 2.

 • Ah now I see, he just didn't notice what he said was hypocritical, even if he did he probably didn't care (like someone mention before, Brutes aren't the smartest creatures)

 • Yeah, they're not. That was mainly why they were used they by the Prophets. I think Tarty was something special in that case though, but he was happy with what he got.
