My name is Adam Winer a 16 year old male, I want to become a Multiplayer/Social Systems Engineer for Bungie. I am going into Foothill College for next coming up school year. I am going to learn C/C++ at school and a little on my own. I will know how to use dynamic scripting language "Python". I will have a 4 year degree in computer science. I want to work for Bungie one day when I am older but I do not know if they have a high acceptance rate for the type of work. (Multiplayer/Social Systems Engineer) Does Bungie recruit from Colleges? How would I be able to make contacts within Bungie to increase my odds of getting a job? Please respond and Thank You for your time.
College really just gave me a more in-depth understanding of how game engines work, and what goes into the production of a game. I really don't think there is anything that 100% prepares you for life in a studio.
Watched Bungie's Liz Bergeron's (seraph213 / Lead Combatants Tester for Destiny) Twitch alpha stream couple of nights ago. She was giving some advice for people like you who want to get a foot into the gaming business as a career. Highly unlikely to get hired by a huge name like Bungie out of college, possible, but unlikely. Get as much experience in smaller studios first and try to learn as much as you can on your own as well, all the time. This is a fast evolving field. You should read the "Breaking In" posts on Bungie.net, you can find it in the News section. Some Bungie employees describe how they got to work there.
