Chechens in Syria: Implications for the US?
To quote the testimony: “Jihadist from the IK play a pivotal role in the fighting in Syria, and leaders from the Caucasus command large numbers of Syrian and foreign fighters in several jihadist groups operating in the country”. But the IK’s history of fighting alongside al-Qaeda doesn’t begin in Syria. The prospect of trained and experienced jihadists training foreign fighters in how to conduct guerilla and terrorist tactics extends beyond just Chechen fighters inside Syria. This article is merely an attempt to showcase how Chechen fighters should be involved in the discussion of the implications of such a dire threat currently affecting the West. The need to combat this threat becomes even more important with such a diverse collection of trained and experienced jihadists training Western citizens.
What your thoughts on the Chechens in Syria? Do you have any thoughts on the implications of experienced fighters, like the Chechens, training Western citizens? Any thoughts on these Western citizens learning how to conduct guerrilla and terrorist tactics in their country of origin?

  • You people don't seem to understand. Tensions exploded 2 years ago and it's been a holy war since. This has stopped being a revolution for a long time now, and to call it a civil war is an understatement. It's Sunni vs Shia and they're going all out.

    • I don't believe that I have any decent input on what you talked about, but I am curious for your opinion on something else, correct me where I am probably wrong. It seems Obama was making deals with some foreign terrorists to trade 5 captured of their side for one captured US Soldier recently. The worst part I've heard is that several other soldiers died or were injured trying to locate and find the abducted soldier, and that he was deserting when he was captured. Thoughts on this rather unbalanced trade?

      • How is this a threat to western countries? Large scale attacks have been attempted before by far flung militias in the US, and intelligence has brought them down before hand.

        • Remember these guys are usually mercenaries. Some have been reportedly been found to be working in Ukraine, though a handful. I wonder though which side of the conflict are they on and under what condition are they there, after all Chechens fighters are usually considered mercenaries instead of jihadist.

          • We have shootings here in America, if a teen can evade authorities then so can trained operatives. The concern is what they are going to hit.

            • You gotta love how people don't give a shit about Syria anymore and think it's something that won't affect them.
