However, it may not solve the problems of the other individual in the process. Sometimes, there's kids that are asshats, and sometimes, there's kids that are asshats because of what's going on in the background that nobody sees. If it's your average regular asshat, then fighting back will straighten them out.

Beats standing down and letting yourself get the short end of the stick. I think bullying would decrease if people would just get the guts to stand up against the bullies. Fear is powerful, I get that, but if everyone had the courage to stand up for themselves and others who they see getting picked on, it just turns into a numbers game.
