Variable gear. Starting off with the same stuff as the next guy a no fun. Letting us start off with plenty of gear to start our journey in would be nice. Not looking for better gear at the start, but more choices for appearance.

I'm sure that we'll have an enormous selection of options to choose from for your initial character, seeing how much stress Bungie is putting on customization. Like I said, I also love the idea of earning unique equipment depending on what type of activities you're taking part in.

Oh of course. I can imagine some gear being there for specific game modes. Like one being more suited for a raid but be terrible to use in PVP.

What might constitute that though? If your gear is decked out to blaze a path through legions of enemies and take down a miniboss-type enemy at the end, why wouldn't it also be good for competitive multiplayer?

Everything should have a counter. Otherwise there will come a time where one specific setup will dominate anything other then it. I fear when something like that is found out. This one one of the reasons I love Team Fortress 2, there is almost no direct upgrade, therefore everything has downsides. For example: while you may be a Titan who scored a armor set that can soak up damage like a tank, you move slow as heck and therefore your easy pickings for snipers.
