So I saw that movie God's Not Dead

Keep in mind that I go to a Christian private school, so today we saw God's Not Dead. I realize that a lot of you more than likely aren't interested in this movie, but it honestly wasn't that bad of a movie. From an objective viewpoint the movie was well scripted, well acted, and the pacing was good, as was the story line. From a religious (Christianity) viewpoint it's an inspirational film to the believers out there. I mean, all in all it wasn't a bad movie. Is it a must see? If you're a religious person, sure, ya, go see it, but if you're not, I don't think you will really enjoy it. I'd probably give it a 7/10.

This is reassuring because I plan on taking a friend of mine to see it. She's an early born-again, so my biggest concern was whether or not they would effectively and accurately tackle common criticism that Christianity receives, so that the movie is insightful, as well as interesting and entertaining. I honestly expected a flop, but I've been hearing good things about this movie. My biggest gripe was that the trailer made out atheists to be aggressive, bitter, intolerant, condescending bigots. However, while this doesn't necessarily hold true for real world interactions, it certainly holds some truth in online forums such as #offtopic where people speak raw due to anonymity. Take a stroll through any "religious" thread in this forum that propagates God's existence, read the majority of the comments, and you'll see what I mean. In fact, just read some of the comments from non-theists in this thread. Honestly though, persecution in places like the US or UK involves being perceived as an occultist, illogical, unintelligent, irrational ect.) The worst we have to deal with is mockery, we're fortunate. If you want to make a movie about real persecution, base it on the Christians that are being imprisoned, tortured and/or slaughtered for their beliefs in places such as the middle east. They are the true martyrs.

I'm seeing it tonight, I'm glad that it has been a good movie. O gosh I love how people that haven't even seem the movie are already arguing against. Are you that blinded that you can't look at it without a bias view?

    • I have no problem with a movie like this existing and hope anyone who goes sees it has a good time, though I might not go see it. However, I think the intent is a bit misguided. I go to a Christian university, though I'm not all that religious personally. Hey, it is a good school with good teachers, I'll take it. Want to know the weird thing though? We still learned about evolution in Biology. A philosophy class is mandatory and the teacher, despite affirming his faith, never took the side of God in the class and actually stressed everybody to think about the concepts. Yet, there aren't exactly any rambling atheists running around because we are introduced to these concepts, so I am just confused why the very mention of these things in some Christian circles is a sign to panic and claim persecution here in the US. To me, this movie may be more antagonizing than helpful, even if it has good intentions. Probably not a fair opinion since I haven't seen it, but that is just how I feel right now.

      • I'd like to know how a guy is trolling the Christian community so badly they named this movie as a refutation of a famous quote of his, and he's been dead for 114 years.

      • Wait, is this the one where the majority of a country claims they are being victimized because they arent getting what they want, but can still practice their religion?

      • We have to save our kids from evil teachers. It's good to have more anti-education propaganda here in the US, because we stack up too well against all the other developed nations.

          • I still find it hilarious that the movie depicts Christianity as a small dwindling minority that must savagely defend itself from immoral atheists.

            • I saw it. I feel like the roles of the student and professor were sorely backwards, and neither of their arguments had any validity. Every atheist in the film is presented as a violent bigot. When I was a freshman, my philosophy professor required us to write a paper the first week on why god wasn't dead, and the antithesis was not an option. Ultimately, the only thing truly representative of a college classroom in the film was when the professor said, "In this classroom there is a god, it's me."

The guy's name is Josh Whedon? JOSH WHEDON? i think i might like this film. Also, does anyone else think it a bit retarded how a PHILOSOPHY professor wants to 'bypass senseless debate' about God's existence? I mean if he believes there is no God then so be it but if you're a Philosophy professor you shuld at least have the balls to debate the subject.
