So that I can interpret and evaluate the information for myself: Could someone please provide me with the source (article, interview or quote) that spurred all this recent speculation on "crafting"?
I'm looking for a link to the direct source material. What I assume to be an interview or article. Please, do not post links to YouTube speculation or discussion videos. What I'm looking for is the original quote and where it is from.
EDIT: Ok I think I found one possible source...
In the September 2013 issue of Edge Magazine (page 65) the interviewer/author speculates on how customization and upgrades may work in Destiny. He states that he believes there will a crafting system in Destiny and goes to ask Chris Butcher about what he (the author) coins as "crafting". Chris side-steps the question and the author/interviewer goes on to briefly discuss his own speculation on the subject.
Based on this, I do not believe (at this time) that term/phrase "Crafting System" originated from a Bungie employee or statement. It very well may be community speculation.
Chris Butcher does go on to mention what he refers to as "upgrade materials", which are found in loot chests. I personally speculate these materials to be glimmer, weapon kits, talent points, etc. All of which were found/noted on the Thunderlord's skill-tree from E3.
However, I obviously cannot know for certain. I too, am just speculating. So I appreciate any added insight you guys may have.

I don't understand why some people are against crafting, when nobody will be forced to do it.

Sadly I feel that if there is any real crafting system it'll likely be limited to making parts for Shrike, Ships, Guns and Armor. There have been a few solid points as to why a general crafting system like that of WoW and it's ilk wouldn't fit too well into Destiny, since Destiny isn't just an MMORPG in it's entirety.

Edited by DJenser: 2/26/2014 12:04:56 AMI seem to recall an interview about the matchmaking system where the interviewee talked about joining up with another tester who was gathering resources. Gathering and Crafting often go together in the online world. It could be reaching, but it's definitely something to consider.

I was unaware there was serious crafting speculation.

Sounds like it Crafting will be apart of the game. Should be fun to see where they go with it all. lets just hope they bring something new to the table and don't steal the crafting model from other MMO style games. -cheers

Bump for relevant discussion.

Cuz I really want to sit in front of a crafting table and waste my time MAKING something. I want to spend all day searching for a Vex Gyro in a FPS. I can't even imagine that anyone would want to SHOOT ALIENS IN THE FACE :-)
Sorry...Had to get that off my chest
I can't remember if it was in the GDC or a follow up in the E3, but there was a quick point made by Bungie that the guns were modular and could be mixed and matched. Now that could've been construed as crafting.

Edited by Hylebos: 2/25/2014 5:00:24 PMThe very original preorder description for Destiny mentions that players will be able to craft things. Pretty ambiguous, but not a terrible point from which you can anchor your speculation to reality.

Isn't this all just speculation atm, not seen anything concrete
