Female shoplifter shamed at Walmart.

...and apparently people are taking her side. So what do you think, Flood: is stealing wrong no matter what the situation, or should people look the other way in cases like these where it's a multi-billion dollar corporation?

  • I hate how everyone wants to make this a black/white situation. "She's wrong", "He's wrong". They're both wrong. It's more complicated than just thief vs shamer. He should have gone to Walmart management. If they don't want to deal with it, then it's out of his control. She shouldn't be stealing, it's wrong.

  • So everyone knows, the guy was in no way related to Walmart. He was just some guy who was cruising the aisles, I am assuming that he was shopping. Though his cart must have been around the corner, since he had a free hand, and the other holding his phone. So, he was policing his local Walmart. Instead of doing the right thing, and notifying a manager to ID the shoplifter, he took matters into his own hands and went apeshit on her. Now, its important to realize, while she likely intended to steal, until she was on her way out, she had not stolen yet. So, she broke no laws in this video. Now, why is what he did more wrong than what she was likely intending to do (we'll never know, he chased her out of the store) 1) His actions could have caused injury. He was brow beating her, in a way that would cause anyone to react. If some dude walked up and started yelling, most would react with fight or flight. There is no way I am giving my ID to some guy yelling at me. Were I her, he would be waking up in an ER, and I would be filling out a police report showing it was justified. She could very well have slipped and fallen on her dash out. Now, who ends up paying for that? Walmart. She hadn't stolen anything at that point. The items were left in the store. This dumbass goes and chases her, and oops. There is a personal injury claim against Walmart. He stopped $20 in theft but cost them a $20,000 lawsuit. Good job. 2) His actions could have escalated. Like I said above, what if she chose fight? Or if in the next aisle her thug boyfriend was getting a bag of cheetos? He's getting his ass beat. Or if she were a hardened criminal, what if she were armed? Now we have a knife or a gun around families in America's number one Family store. Good job. He wasn't trained to handle this, nor was he really in the right. He was being an asshole to someone he could be an asshole to. Walmart employees would get fired for his behavior, and I hope he was barred from the store for it.

Whether or not stealing is right or wrong, it's pretty much always wrong unless you can't feed yourself or your children. That guy is a dickwad, this should be on a cringe thread for Captain America: Walmart Police. Watch in awe as some sad shit with nothing better to do harasses a woman out of a store!

The only time I'd be somewhat ok with someone stealing is if they were starving and they stole food.

    • Stealing is only somewhat acceptable if you desperately need the item in question, like food when you are starving.

    •
The man identified as Brandon Messenger shames the Walmart shoplifter with rhetoric of not having to follow Walmart shoplifter policy because he is not an employee. "Screw your AP-09." Messenger says, "I don't have to follow it anymore." suggesting he may have been fired because of following his own protocol in the past. Messenger claims after watching the woman attempt to shoplift several items, he decided to let her see him following her. He then began filming the woman pulling items out of a purse. Messenger stated "I worked loss prevention for Wal-Mart. I caught 100s of shoplifters. I made this video because I'm tired of watching walmarts loss prevention struggle with their policies. Yes I could of done it differently. But that's not how I work. Don't like it?? Then buzz off." Messenger continues, "I'll make a video every time I see stuff like this. And as far as someone laying me out. Lololol. Good luck. I've done this long enough to know what to do and how to react."
sounds like a pleasant fellow

          • Stealing is wrong. "Oh, it's just a few items who gives a shit?" Now, imagine if we let everyone get away with it. It becomes a billion dollar problem. I sure as shit wouldn't tolerate anyone stealing from my store, no matter how large and profitable it is. Would you mind if someone came into your store and started stealing items?

                • OT: I'm pretty much neutral on the situation. Yeah stealing is wrong blah blah blah ad nauseam, but at the same time, that guy has literally no authoritative power and was on a massive ego trip (probably thought he was going to be deemed a "hero" or some shit)...

                • I saw an idiot stealing from Wal-Mart once, too. The cashiers called the cops, and I walked by right as they were cathing up to him. I think the guy should have just gotten a manager. Confronting people like that yourself is a bad idea.

I'll admit. The guy recording really bothers me, even though I know shop-lifting is bad, he could have told the manager there that this lady was shoplifting and have him take care of it by either A. Confronting her. B. Calling the police. You don't record this kind of shit and upload it to YouTube. No I'm not on her side (she's a complete and obvious thief) but I'm not on this guy's side either.
