Well, it was a bit awkward because they did have to cut some out from the original version, as it was actually a lite novel. I love the anime, and have read some of the novels. They actually go into so much more detail, and are really good. For instance, in the episode where Kirito breaks the guys sword in a duel, that was actually because he knew he straight power struggle he'd probably lose, but he also noticed the sword was more heavily decorated then most, which decreases a weapons maximum durability, so he knew to attack the weapon, not the user.
