More politically correct nonsense from the liberals...
'Holy Infant,' 'Christ The Savior' Among Phrases Omitted From Song At Student Concert
KINGS PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – The song “Silent Night” is at the heart of a concert controversy on Long Island.
Officials at Ralph J. Osgood Intermediate School removed several religious references, including “holy infant” and “Christ the savior,” from the popular Christmas carol before a concert featuring fifth-graders last week, WCBS 880′s Mike Xirinachs reported.
The intent was to avoid offending non-Christians, but the change left others upset.
“Any reference to what the song was about — the birth of Christ, ’round young virgin mother and child’ — all of those things were omitted from the version that the children sang beautifully,” said Jackie McDonald, a mother who walked out of the performance.
“To choose to sing ‘Silent Night’ and eviscerate the meaning of the song was not appropriate,” McDonald told CBS 2′s Carolyn Gusoff.
Some parents said the school should have chosen a different song.
“It’s offensive,” one father told Gusoff. “If you’re going to remove words to not offend other religions, what about the religion that that song belongs to, which is Christianity?”
The chorus performance also included a song in Hebrew, but it wasn’t a religious song.
Kings Park’s school superintendent and the principal of the Ralph J. Osgood Intermediate School have since apologized.
They admit it was a mistake to edit the song and promised it won’t happen again, Xirinachs reported.

Edited by Hunter: 12/22/2013 12:20:58 AMThat's stupid.
-
That was a terrible idea.
-
That makes no sense. Silent night is all about Jesus Christ.
-
I wouldn't call this another shot in the War on Christmas, more like a group of people who probably meant well but politically corrected themselves into a corner. They could have subbed any other kids Christmas song, or just sang Rudolph again at the end. Everyone wants an encore of Rudolph. The second line of Silent Night is, well, "holy night". People are going to notice when you change essentially every second line in one of the most well known religious Christmas songs.
-
They shouldn't have sang a blatantly religious christmas song. Rudolph, Frosty, Up on the Rooftop, etc. etc. these would have been much more appropriate for children in a public school.
-
They just want to take out anything that involves Christianity. It doesn't really offend anyone but taking it out does. Seriously, do people cringe at hearing "Christ the saviour is born"? It's a song people.
-
Let's shun Christmas songs but still celebrate Christmas. The holiday of greed, presents, and pretending to like your family.
-
If you're gonna omit those words you shouldn't be singing or even talking about Christmas in the first place.

Edited by Versace: 12/21/2013 11:00:20 PMI live in New York, and I heard this on the local news, but I really don't have a problem with it. New York is very diverse, and there is no need to force young children to sing songs that are not a part of their religion, just how Christians do not sing songs about Buddha or Vishnu. America has no set religion, so yeah, no problem. Also, many view Christmas as a time of giving in America, not as a religious holiday. Probably could have picked a different song, though.
-
Well, technically, Christmas is a Pagan holiday. Christ actually has no relevance in the first place.

Cry me a fucking river.

They aren't even singing Silent Night if they leave those out. I personally do not approve.
-
Literally no one cares.

Edited by Bolt: 12/21/2013 11:02:14 PMThey changed it to put greater emphasis on what the song is really about.
-
PUBLIC schools have no business singing religious songs.
-
You're going all out today, aren't you?
-
Okay.
