Lars Bakken Interview: Multiplayer Details

Alright, if you folks haven't seen it yet, there is a great new interview with Lars on the GameInformer website. Check it out now. Things confirmed: - Multiplayer will be sort of blended in with the campaign. Your character will carry over between the two. Bungie's sophisticated networking methods will still find ways to make sure that you are matched as fairly as possible. - Voice chat will only be between you and your fireteam members to prevent negative trolling experiences. Not sure how I feel about this one. It seems like muting works just fine for me. I'll have to see how they work this out in the beta before I pass judgment, I guess. - Killing in MP will be faster than it was Halo. I don't mind this as long as it isn't Call of Duty fast because that takes all the strategy out of it. I imagine that with a combination of armor and health, it will be evenly paced. I'm guessing the speed is more similar to the increased pace of Halo 4. - Players who are MP only might have to branch out to get the most out of this game. Lars says there should be ample incentives for that though. I will add more to this once I'm not using my phone, but until then, how does this info make you feel?

 •
- Killing in MP will be faster than it was Halo. I don't mind this as long as it isn't Call of Duty fast because that takes all the strategy out of it.
Declaring that Call of Duty doesn't take strategy is a very annoying, short sighted, fanboyish statement. Call of Duty doesn't have less strategy than Halo, it has different strategy. It's true, that if I see you before you see me, I'm very likely to kill you, and you'll have almost no chance to turn the tides. But that just pushes the skills necessary to do well in Call of Duty away from accuracy over time, and more towards stealth and detection. A good Call of Duty player doesn't just happen to see other players first. A good Call of Duty player has honed the skills necessary to guarantee seeing other players first. Just because a game focuses more on a set of skills you're not used to needing, doesn't mean it doesn't take skill to play that game.
