Rules of dibs for teen boys.
1. If it’s well documented or recognized in the friend group that you liked a girl first or you like her more than the other dibber, than you have the first right to dibs. That means that people know how you feel because you have said something to indicate your feelings.
2. You must follow through with the dibs in a reasonable amount of time, normally defined as about two to three weeks, unless other things come up, like going away for sports or school breaks.
3. If you make no progress or you fail, you must relinquish the dibs and communicate this to the friend in competition with you within one to two weeks.
4. You can’t call dibs to spite your friend or be annoying.
5. You can’t call dibs if you know you won’t succeed.
6. You can’t call dibs if you know the girl already likes someone else, especially if that someone is a friend of yours.
7. If the girl you’ve called dibs on rejects you, graciously bow out.
8. You don’t have the right to get mad at another guy for talking (not “talking”) to your dibs.
What do you boys think of these rules and the article in general?
-
Can I have these rules? Just , you know, to myself?
-
C'mon lady. This is page one of the bro code. We practically come out the womb with this knowledge as guys.
-
I'm getting real tired of everyone calling me all the time.
-
I'm pretty sure people can guess my opinion on this.
-
These rules would only be problematic if women were fully realized individuals capable of making decisions and taking action for themselves. Because then y'know treating them the same way you treat choosing who gets the shotgun seat would be kinda weird.

#dibs
-
Pretty crazy that 6 out of 10 of these replies are hidden due to mutes and my thread is already globally muted.
-
...dibs applies to people, too? That doesn't seem right
-
-
Why do people insist on making things more complicated than they really are? Man, that was stupid.
-
Nice spam thread.
-
Muted for spam.
-
It's first past the post where I come from.
-
I like how this dumb thread is globally muted and nearly everyone called you an idiot for making it. That says a lot.
-
that's idiotic. It's treating girls like possessions. I don't mean to be no white knight, but I'd only call "dibs" on candy bars and shotguns. plus I think teen dating culture in general is dumb and unhealthy.
-
dibs on cam
-
Pfft - Like it matters. The woman always decides everything for them anyhow, and they don't even know it.
-
Global mute, abused like a red-headed step child.
-
It's kinda true, some guys I know actually use these rules. I'd rather not let a girl get between me and a friend.
4. You can’t call dibs to spite your friend or be annoying. 5. You can’t call dibs if you know you won’t succeed.
Bull shit.
-
It's a bit juvenile.
