Halo Waypoint Community Letter to 343i
Hello Everyone, The community have created a document which we believe is critical for the next Halo. There were lots of people involved and took weeks, but after several reviews we finally have the final version for everyone to see. This document was sent to over 50 employees at 343i, anyone from a coder to Bonnie Ross the general manager, and will also arrive at the physical building at 343i. We encourage a good discussion about the document and PLEASE, I can't stress this enough, PLEASE make an effort to read the entire document. That way we do not go over things that have already been discussed. If you have any additional questions, comments or concerns we would love to hear and will do our best clear anything up. We would love to get additional support and trying is better than not. Cheers! Go ahead and click that Favorite button please, it won't bite :)
Halo Waypoint Thread ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My own thoughts: While very thorough and well written, I am dismayed by the fact that the sources for why the community prefers "this" over "that" is specifically from Waypoint itself, leading to very biased polls. A lot of the ideas are not bad, but they deserve to return as toggle options, not absolutes. Anyway, maybe this will also show the Bungie Community that the Vocal Majority does not like 343i's choices or even them themselves at Waypoint.

So all this Community Letter was saying is "make a Halo 3 clone, we hate any kind of change whatsoever"? It does have some good points but they seriously seem not to be able to tell when a certain new feature adds to the depth of the game and improves the gameplay and flow. The points I agree with are: - Increased Difficulty - Dynamic Aim Assist (seems interesting but not sure how it'll work out if implemented) - Flinch removed, Descope returned - 12 second weapon despawn removed, 30+ weapon despawn returned - Personal and Random Ordnance Drops removed, Weapons-on-Map returned - Flag auto pick-up, carrier waypoint and inability to drop removed, Juggling ability and throwing returned - Return of Assault gametype - Visible Ranks & Social Split returned - Removal of Perks However, I disagree with these: - Sprint Removed - Oddball throwing removed, “R” to ‘drop at your feet’ returned - Removal of Armor Abilities Concerning Sprinting, they said it was a bad gameplay mechanic because you could just sprint to the opponent who, having just killed you from the previous engagement and therefore has his shields down, and kill him. "Trading kills". What really was causing the problem was the Instant Respawn (which I'm surprised they didn't mention), not the Sprint, especially since the maps have already been scaled to accommodate sprinting. Instant Respawning shouldn't be in Competitive Matchmaking (but still toggle-able for Custom Games). The only thing I would like to be changed about Sprint is to reduce the amount of time Spartans can sprint for. As for map scaling, it just boils down to map design now, and how well 343i can design maps. Sprint should be made toggle-able too, for different variants of Slayer. As for Oddball Throwing, I don't see why it should be removed. I don't see how this new feature turns Oddball "into something that resembles an extremely barbaric pass-time with no order or intelligence". That's nonsense. The only thing that should be removed (which again I'm not sure why they didn't bring up) is the random Oddball spawn locations. If the Oddball instantly spawns in the centre of the map again if an opponent throws it off the map, the enemy team won't be at any advantage and it will discourage them from throwing the ball off the map. Still, Oddball Throwing should be made toggle-able, but still be featured in Competitive Matchmaking. Why do people (at least all the so-called "hardcore 'I've-been-there-since-CE' Halo fans") hate Armor Abilities so much? Everybody still has the same Armor Abilities to choose from, it still is an even battlefield. I really fail to understand what is so bad about Armor Abilities. The only issue right now is balancing the AAs. The AAs feel more balanced in Halo 4 than they were in Halo: Reach but they still need some tweaking to get right. Seriously though, all this letter said was to make Halo 5 a Halo 3 replica. They didn't propose any new gameplay mechanics but only told 343i to keep removing new features.
