Sony is implementing PS4 DRM for the resell of games

https://legaldoc.dl.playstation.net/ps3-eula/psn/e/e_tosua_en.html (Do ctrl + F and search for resale, that's where you'll find it.) Sony...this is just plain...dirty. I thought you were for non-DRM on the resell of games. What happened?

That clause has been in the EULA since the beginning of the PS 3. It simply gives them the ABILITY to implement DRM but in itself is NOT drm. Learn to read legal documents people.

      • Currently only live in UK. Lets hope it stays there lol. Besides, I'm guessing they won't be at all strict on this since they said they will allow it. I think it's just some thing they have to say right now? Or something they want but can't currently, legally at least.

That's the PS3 EULA/TOS thing... If the PS4 one is the same then it won't have any effect on reselling used games, since you are able to buy and sell used PS3 copies easily.

                • Now I'm waiting for the Sony-clones to come in here and tart talking all sorts of shit. "That's a smart business move, Sony! lolMicrosoft doesn't give a shit about their customers! They'll let pirates steal your balls and everything!!!" But when Microsoft mentioned this, they were Satan-incarnate...

Isn't this what they said at E3? That used games and trade-ins were up to the publisher? And that Sony-published games they said wouldn't have any restrictions? Plus that link doesn't seem right, does it? https://legaldoc.dl.playstation.net/ps3-eula/psn/e/e_tosua_en.html
You must not resell either Disc-based Software or Software Downloads, unless expressly authorised by us and, if the publisher is another company, additionally by the publisher.
•
This is actually standard legal stuff. Most jurisdictions require such 'software licenses' over actual sale due to outdated copyright laws. You'll find another term saying Sony may choose to not rely on any of the terms herein. The ban on sales just covers all loop holes.
That's just to protect against piracy and whatnot. That's most likely hidden in the fine print of every console ever.

                              •
11. Use restrictions (known as DRM) Some services available via the SEN may have specific rules on how they may be used. For instance, you may be restricted to downloading, streaming and/or using the service: (i) in your country of residence only; (ii) with the purchasing SEN account only; (iii) with certain Sony systems and/or other devices only; and/or (iv) with a certain number of Sony systems that are associated with the purchasing SEN account only. These restrictions are outlined at the time of purchase but may not be displayed in your SEN account language. We are able to offer the services to you at the price specified only on the basis that they are managed by the DRM. Please make sure you understand these restrictions before purchasing. In those restrictions, HOME CONSOLE means a PS3 and PORTABLE CONSOLE means a PSP, a PS Vita or a PS Mobile device. Activation of the relevant Sony system by the purchasing SEN account may be required. If you delete the account that purchased the Service or deactivate the relevant Sony System, you may lose access to and use of the service. We reserve the right to limit the number of times that a Sony System may be activated or deactivated. You may download any service purchased from PlayStation®Mobile via a PlayStation-Certified mobile device on up to three compatible activated PlayStation-Certified mobile devices.
Here's the entire section on DRM
