Capcom Vancouver's Xbox One launch game Dead Rising 3 runs a native resolution of 720p.
"We are 720p, upscaled to 1080p," executive producer Josh Bridge told IGN, "and we run at a 30 frames per-second lock."
"We have to be locked because it's about the feel of combat. You've got to have that predictability of button presses." If the frame rate goes any lower, the way a game responds to your input slows.
They're reasoning makes no sense at all. I love how they address the whole thing with lower FPS, but never even touch on higher FPS. So what's going to happen when you're FPS isn't locked and running higher than 30 FPS? Do tell Crapcom, because I would LOVE to hear why you think it would be a bad thing.
-
I think they mean that if it was fluid, it would sometimes be higher, but reactions times would wary. If a game can't run with a stable frame rate, locking it to a lower one is best. If it sometimes ran at 45, and sometimes at 30, then it would be much more noticeable when it dropped. If it runs at a fixed frame rate, the brain gets used to that frame rate and think it looks natural. If it changes all the time, it does doesn't.

What FPS did Reach run at?
-
FPS Doesn't mean shit to me. Zelda OoT ran at 20 fps NTSC-U/C and NTSC-J It ran at 15 fps PAL, and It was still awesome. However, I will say playing a Sonic game at 30 fps is awkward as hell.

What's destiny gona run at ?

Same as I stated when this news was out.. There's no excuse for 720p 30fps. They could've gone bigger but didn't. They should've pushed more, there is only one Xbox exclusive that is actually 1080p 60fps and that's forza, and that's just a racing game. I'm expecting a year of disappoint with this low res and frame crap..
-
I have an idea on how to make it better
don't give a phuck and actually play the game
-
Dead rising blows anyway
-
A) Hardware sucks? B) Suck at optimization C) Maybe they're using the console's power for bigger games rather than games what look better One of the three
-
Concerning Dead rising as a franchise, this should be the least of our concerns...
-
Xbox One confirmed for Xbox 360.

If you're a fan of Totalbiscuit (which I assume you are considering you are a pc gamer), he would agree with their point. It is better to have a stable fps than have it jump between say 30-60, much better for the gamer this way.

Edited by Logfish111: 11/8/2013 12:22:30 AMWhy don't they just put more frames in? They obviously couldn't fit any more frames in the disc :( I suppose small discs are better though, if they weren't careful they could be trying too hard to cram all the frames in and the disc may be too big for the tray.
-
That's what GTA V runs on current gen.
-
TL;DR version for all sub-1080p next gen games coming out. 1) "We don't have good optimization tools yet", or 2) "We suck at our jobs."
-
Well it is a launch title so I don't expect it to be groundbreaking. Next gen launch titles are just barely next gen.
-
-
Aw, no 60fps? :(
-
Edited by JOSH55886: 11/8/2013 12:01:35 AMNative 720P? What is this? 2006? Disappointing both consoles won't support native 1080P for all games.
-
They're just getting familiar with the hardware.
-
Edited by PandaJerk007: 11/8/2013 12:22:26 AMWell if I understanding correctly, it sounds like they want it to have a lower but stable FPS. Apparently if they shot for a higher FPS it might fluctuate a lot and that would impact the gameplay. I'd much rather have thousands of zombies in the area than a higher FPS, but I'm probably not going to ever play the game anyway :(

Edited by Steveokiller: 11/8/2013 12:19:08 AMI wont make a big deal out of 720p, but 30 fps is fairly big. Though this is coming from the company who made some bullshit exuse as to why dmc was 30fps as well.

Edited by A Saturnalia: 11/8/2013 12:14:15 AMOkay? That doesn't make either console superior, it's not their fault that developers are low balling the resolution Sorry meant to be a response to josh
-
I'd make a #NextGen joke but it has to be Next Gen to begin with...
...that was the joke.
-
With 60 fps it's bound to have ups and downs. That's still not much of an excuse though. They should have gone up to 900p. I guess either the engine is very shitty, or the console is a lot worse than I thought.
