How do sin(x) and cos(x) work?

When I enter cos(45) into a calculator, what calculations are being made? And don't say 1/sec(x) or equivalent trig. identities.

  • Sin is sin. It's a relationship between side ratios and angles on a right triangle. When you type it into your calculator, it's probably doing a table look up for values and using fourier series to fill in the blanks.
