How do sin(x) and cos(x) work?

When I enter cos(45) into a calculator, what calculations are being made? And don't say 1/sec(x) or equivalent trig. identities.

  • the angle is the number you're putting into the sin or cos function. remember sin is opposite over hypotenuse? that's what you just found. It's the ratio of the sides of the formed right triangle with said angle (x).
