•
No surprise here. Some people think Obamacare is a bad idea and planned to stop it. - Der
But they didn't stop it. They were nowhere close to stopping it. All the Republicans did do is cause a Government Shutdown, the first since 1995-6 (Which they were blamed for as well because apparently Republicans feel it's best to shutdown when they don't get their way), that has put 800,000 people out of work. Instead of going forward with a Clean Cut resolution, proposed by the Democrats with spending levels at what many Republicans wanted, they instead choose to refuse to budge, thus crippling any chance that had of coming out unscathed in the 2014 midterm elections. Now? Republicans plan to tie this measure to the raising of the debt ceiling, something that, if not done, could cripple not only the United States financially and lead to a default, but will also effect other global markets still recovering after the 2008 Global Recession. So, once again, Republicans chose to be obstructionists rather than listen to the American public when they say "We are sick of this shutdown. We're sick of this arguing." And thus, the Republicans will more than likely lose the 2014 midterm election and control of the House.

  • After the 1995-96 shutdown, the republicans lost 8 house seats and actually gained 2 senate seats. Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. No one knows how this is going to end at this point. - Der

  •
After the 1995-96 shutdown, the republicans lost 8 house seats and actually gained 2 senate seats.
This time is different. We are all sick of this, and it's become obvious who the people causing this is. Republicans have been on a downwards spiral since the 2010 elections. They had their butt handed to them in 2012, and I don't doubt it'll be worse next year if this charade of government leadership in the House continues.

  • We? All? Off year elections generally don't turn out well for the party holding the Oval office. If you haven't noticed Obama's not exactly the most popular guy... - Der
Off year elections generally don't turn out well for the party holding the Oval office.
You honestly think the Democrats are going to get it worse than the Republicans? My god, you are either a moron or just don't understand the political game right now. Unless the Democrats royally screw something up in the next year, it's safe to say Republicans are going to take a big hit.

I could see that happening. Not only is the trust level in Congress at absolute zero, neither party is willing to make a compromise on anything, the Republicans even more so than the Democrats. On top of that the republicans only seem to want gun restrictions removed and tax breaks for the rich on the claim that the rich earned every penny they own and that they create jobs for the middle class. If they don't get their way, they throw a shit-fit over it. If the US doesn't get out of this recession by 2020, the Republicans not only will not be in power, the party may not exist anymore.

  • The Democrats have compromised - even some Republicans are admitting it.

  • There's also been people saying that the Moderate Republicans are siding with the Democrats this time. The Tea Party is losing support, it seems.

  • Not just moderate Republicans, even business leaders are deciding to work with Obama rather than risk a default.

  • To be honest, I would too if I was in a position of power.
