Memories of times on the internet

I visited KoC again tonight and found this amongst the ruins.
Posted by: Primordial Soup I came back today. sixteenth February, 2012. It's a late Thursday afternoon, slightly chilly, blackened snow staining the streets. I saw small traces of presence, but no one in the vicinity. A somewhat recent trail of footprints in the snow caught my eye. Following it I came upon the last remaining open thread. One last thread. A few words, a most uninspiring epitaph. This is the end, I realized. The last few words to be penned in the legend that once was The Knights of Cree. We have all moved on, to where ever fate takes us, but I'm sure we all hold memories of this place in our heart, and the backwaters of our browsing history. I don't know how I felt as I gazed at the ruins. I had spent so many hours, made so many friends, trolled so many new members. What was the point? To watch it all crumble into rubble? That's all that anything turns into, dust and clay and pebbles of such picayune condition that no one notices as they tread on the grave site of an empire. That's what has happened here. I know all of us will forget this place. In thirty years there will be no memory of The Knights. Nothing at all. It will become a series of lost files in an old server gone to god knows where. But it will still exist, somewhere below the surface, buried under thousands of tons of congealed sediment. The bones will be found another day, another year, maybe even another millennium. But they'll be here, as bytes of code. They'll be here, all the records we kept and the memories we shared. They'll be here for what seems like eternity, but someday it all will end. Far after all of us are gone, the ruins of KoC will finally disappear in someway. And that will be the end. Nothing lasts forever. But we lasted for awhile. Don't bother trying to remember; you have lives to pursue. But know that you don't have to feel bad. These closed threads will outlive those of us with the greatest longevity. They'll last. There's nothing to take away from this. No message, no moral. I just want you to put this back, on an abandoned shelf in the warehouse of your mind, back in the shadows. Let it sit there and decay, and never look back. We've gone through a lot, but now it's time to leave. Forever.
It's amazing how nostalgic you can feel towards a group of people on the internet. The memories, the shenanigans, those deep and meaningful talks and the long discussions about nothing at all. I don't even really know what to say, but I just thought I'd share this post of Soup's here.
