So I suddenly had a desire to replay Halo: ODST. I also tend to drop the "3" from the title of the game, as I think it does a disservice to it. This is most definitely not just an expansion. The campaign is a solid 8 hours on Heroic while completing the side story. This time through I made sure to collect all of the audio logs. I've only ever played through the game once or twice back in 2009. After going through it again and piecing together Sadie's story, I have to say that the campaign in ODST is one of my favourites from the entire series. I might go so far as to say that ODST's campaign is second or third after Halo: CE and Halo 3. As a whole, I'd rank the game 4th after the original trilogy. What is clear to me is just how vastly superior the campaign of ODST is to the campaigns of Reach and Halo 4. Halo 4's campaign was sadly disappointing. It lacked interesting side characters, direction, and introduced a lackluster environment and enemy. Halo Reach had a few great levels but failed to achieve any type of emotional connection between the player and characters. There were too many Spartans and not enough time was spent making the player care about any one of them. Whereas the ODSTs in The Squad each had distinguishable faces, voices, personalities, and hints of backstories, the Spartans in Reach did not. Perhaps the only thing I'd say Reach did right over ODST was having each character's outfit/armor visually distinct. As an overall package, I'd rank the games: 1. Halo 2. Halo 3 3. Halo 2 4. Halo: ODST 5. Halo 4 6. Halo: Reach For Campaigns: 1. Halo 2. Halo: ODST 3. Halo 3 4. Halo 2 5. Halo: Reach 6. Halo 4 *I don't really count Halo Wars. It was a good game with great cinematics. Unfortunately, I have a very hard time fitting it into the canon. I can't swallow a flood outbreak twenty years before the events of Halo. Thoughts? Where would you rank ODST?
