The Communists were right after all
Read the article first you fucks.
If you know anything about capitalism, it revolves around the theory of selfishness and extreme individualism. Communism is just the opposite. But on a serious note (no, this thread is not about capitalism vs communism), I only wish that evolution was a little faster so we can weed out all the assholes from the rest of humanity, so that we can all live happy together without any wars or school ground bullies to hurt people. The only bad news to this is that some people reading this are going to have different ideas and misinterpretations about cooperation and kindness. Not to go too off topic here, but I mean that anti-civil rights activists are only going to strengthen their stance on bashing gays and other minorities because they're deluded enough to think they themselves are nice and cooperative people. And they're clearly not. Also since I'm using BBC, here is an obligatory inb4lonepaul

So you take an evolutionary article that you clearly don't understand, tried to apply it to an economic system, and then claim that economic system was right when it hasn't even implemented properly, and when they tried to it failed miserably. How anyone takes this guy seriously is beyond me.

    • Interesting article there. i think we just need to find the appropriate balance between being an asshole and being helpful. Unfortunately I feel we are a long way away from that point.

    • The great thing about Capitalism is competition. In order to be big you have to come up with the next idea and innovate on technology. Computers were once very costly and took up an entire building but now they fit in the palm of your hand and come dirt cheap. Communism is the exact opposite and doesn't promote competition. Without competition, there's no need to innovate and invent and progress halts.

    • The important thing to remember is that what we often ascribe to "human nature" is more often the result if social pressures and our upbringing. Capitalism encourages and normalizes excessive greed to erode social solidarity, so it should come as no surprise that those values become commonplace within society.

        • After reading the article I would like to see what the study actually says. The end sentence made it a bit more confusing saying that selfish genes benefit from cooperative organisms. However, it makes sense that selfish tendencies would benefit someone short term, but not long term.

And I could swear they already did an experiment like this before. Cooperation has always been a favorable trait, particularly in animals.

              • I don't know if communism is what you mean. Looking out for one another is a far cry from total equal distribution. There needs to be a balance. Undesirable traits must be weeded out, or the gene pool as a whole is weaker. That said, there needs to be a group for there to be a gene pool. If there is an ideal socioeconomic system, it would be a Democratic Socialist-Capitalist hybrid. There has to be failure to weed out the weak, but there has to be a system to take care of the group as a whole. Communism just makes everyone equal, regardless of strength/weakness.

                • Obligatory response video. But then if we have no problems, who can I blame all of the insignificant things in life to? On to topic: It seems that a big portion of this generation is more left-leaning when it comes to social aspects of life. A lot of people want more equality rather than leaving others for dead. While it is primary nature to be on top for humans, the secondary nature is often to help others out in a group to get ahead. Although, the secondary nature of a human alone is to get as far as they can without help, they'll eventually ask for help from a group of people that are advancing farther than this human is.
