Suggestions for Nintendo to fix it's situation?

If you're interested and educationally able, read. I think the article is very fair and realistic in its assessment of Nintendo's current situation as well as in the suggestions to fix said situation. I don't hate Nintendo. I owned all of their systems up until the Gamecube. I'd love to see Nintendo rebound, but unless they change some things, even their first party titles won't save the system. Discuss.

  • They should drop consoles after the WiiU and stick to handhelds.

  • They won't ever get 3rd parties back. It's pointless to continue to pursue them. They can stand on their own by being a first party console. The 'ace in the hole' is exactly what I would suggest to Nintendo. A Pokemon console game, on par with the handheld series, with an awesome (Ni No Kuni like) combat system would be a system seller. Hell, I'd get a Wii-U just for that game. Other than that, they need to up their line up (also on par with what the article said), expand Mario like they did with Mario Galaxy. Mario 3d World looks kinda cool. Release an amazing Zelda title. Actually.. invest in NEW quirky franchises. Pikmin launched on the gamecube. It was a cool new first party game. With more and more franchises like that, they can succeed this generation, and generations to come (as a first party console). If they want to succeed, package Mario Kart and something like Mario Party or another addictive party title with the system, and advertise that. "Only on Wii-U", sell some consoles.

  • Games. They needed games yesterday. Mario Kart needed to be this year. Pikmin had to be a launch game and it's just coming out today.

Honestly they should make a system that can compete with MS and Sony. With MS and Sony on they keep improving the power of their systems. Ever since their start up to the Gamecube they were making systems that were able to compete and sometimes out preform their competition. Now they have the Wii which is less powerful than the PS3 and 360 and even the Wii U is pretty much the same. The only thing they are relying on now are gimmicks for their systems that are less powerful than their competition. And a collection of their old exclusive games. The only thing the Wii /U is to me is a system you would get only to play their 1st party games. If you like 3rd party games like Battlefield then you are out of luck because the systems are not powerful enough to run the current ones on the same level.

    • In the console world, they really need to stop with all the gimmicky bullshit. Motion control and touchscreen control only work in very specific settings. They need to go back to their roots and just develop high quality first party games and stop worrying about how to make themselves stand out. Make some awesome freaking games and you don't have to have a touchscreen gamepad to get people interested. Like the Super Smash Bros. Wii U? I would have gotten a Wii U had it been exclusive to the Wii U and if Wii U wasnt so damn expensive (could be cheaper if the gamepad wasn't like a $100+ piece of hardware). But now instead I'm getting it on my 3DS.

Take a brake on making 3ds games and make some big titles for the wiiu. I remember when the 3ds came out and it had a bit of a rocky launch but they fixed it and they wont bother to fix there other problem. They got Wonderful 101 coming out and they couldn't have picked a worse time to release it. As I see it Nintendo will probably stop making home consoles and just stick with the handhelds.

    • All they had to really do was not title their newest console as if it were a spin-off of their former one.

    • Honestly, I don't think there's much they CAN do besides maybe doing as the article said and getting more 3rd party titles somehow and even that probably won't turn things around for them completely. The Wii-U's primary issue stems from the fact that it launched with virtually no games of interest to sell with it, no Mario Kart, no Smash Bros., no Zelda, not even a new title of some kind. Nothing. They can't speed up the release of these future titles without compromising the quality of said titles. The only things I think that they COULD have done, was either devote more time to a big name title(Zelda, Mario, Smash Bros., etc) so that they could get it done in time to release with Wii-U OR hold off release of the Wii-U until at least one big name title and a couple of other good unique game were ready.

    • Give up. Liquidate the Wii U, stick with portable systems. License their IP's for console development.

      • Nintendo needs to remember that the gamers who grow up playing Nintendo and made it a household name are grown up and are in there mid to late 30's. Make there games for that demographic

      • Pistol Whip Ubisoft and make Rayman Legends exclusive again, Metroid Prime 4, Re-acquisition of Rare and Banjo Kazooie, Another Great Metroid-vania in HD, Possibly an Exclusive Castlevania game SOtN style, and finally a NEW mario game that isn't the exact same forrmula as the previous games, something with an actual story, like Mario RPG except with more depth into it.

        • Nintendo could make big changes and people would still buy their products. Unlike the Microsoft/Sony communities that despise change. So they have the potential to make a great new console and maybe even a new handheld. But the DS is pretty good already.

        • Pokemon on WiiU and I would snatch that bitch up. Also do away with friend codes and give online profiles.
