You completely miss his point unfortunately. He is afraid that they will try to dumb the game down to get a lower rating. Which is a legitimate thing. In a real apocalyptic setting there would be extremely rough and gritty images which happens to involve harsher language generally.

I understand that happens, but a overly violent swear fest just sucks, the gears series for example, it tried to be serious and gritty but just sucked.
-
Except thats not the imagery Bungie is going for with Destiny. A new hopeful world is what they want. Light and hopeful is what they used to describe the Last City, a place you would want to keep coming back to. So I guess OP is completely missing the point of Destiny. Think Star Wars- A New Hope not 300

No OP is not trying to interpret Bungie's design plans in different ways hes criticizing it because it is less realistic. It does not matter that the destiny world is on its way up, they should not hide the reality of a planet being driven to extinction. And even if earth was starting to fight back the process would still be grizzly. What you have to understand is that all Halo games were rated M for Mature and they really were not that bad so the fact that destiny might be T for teen means the game is going to be VERY VERY dumbed down.
-
What I understand already is everything you've stated, so thanks for pointing out nothing. I full anticipate this game being rated Mature. But that has nothing to do with the design plans of Destiny. I am saying that Bungie isn't going for the grizzly feel for Destiny overall. There are probably places that are going to feel that way (The Hellmouth comes to mind) but overall what the OP is wanting isn't what Destiny is designed to be. I said nothing about ratings, so why even bring that up?
-
Why bring up ratings? Because ratings dictate the realm of design you can work in. A T rated game cannot go places an M rated game can. We know that they do not want to make Destiny more realistic and that is why we are criticizing it. I am not asking for some gears of war gameplay but lets be realistic about what apocalypses and wars entail.
-
And yet that theory and perspective is so over done its old. I am not disagreeing with you on the grittiness and darkness etc. but only have it where it is appropriate and applicable. For so long the entertainment industry has associated a post apocalypic world with darkness and grittiness and having the fight for survival. That's all great and and its very realistic. However, most times the entertainment industry focuses on these things, they fail to include the bright spots of the world. In Destiny, humans are not only surviving, but they are thriving. We are beyond the dark days of facing day-to-day extinction and instead of attempting to take back what was once ours. Yes, there are threats, but this war isn't as much about the battle to avoid extinction so much as it is about reclaiming the lost Golden Age of humanity. We have already won the war against extinction, now we are branching out of the City and reclaiming our solar system from "outsiders." So again, I will say that the dark gritty "realism" that both you and the OP are wanting doesn't quite fit into the design that Bungie is trying to portray in Destiny. Also, I said why bring up ratings when I said nothing about them. Then I also said that I agreed with you about the M rating. So ratings obviously have nothing to do with our conversation here.
-
I don't know why you are talking focusing good parts of life. I never said the game should be depressing, just that the gritty parts shouldn't be left out. This whole thread is about ratings because they specifically relate to the design of the game, if you remember my first post was in response to somebody else not you. The ratings do have A LOT to do with the contents of a game and it's design. And yes we know that IS NOT what Bungie is trying to do, and we disagree with their opinion.
-
Okay so in summation: We disagree on the style Bungie is bringing to Destiny. I like it, you and OP don't. The game will probably be rated M, we both agree on that. There is a lot more you can do in an M rated game versus a T rated game. That is a fact and not being disputed whatsoever. The entire point of our conversation was that we were disagreeing on the style Bungie is implementing into Destiny, which had nothing to do with what it will be rated at all. (This is why I kept wondering why you kept mentioning ratings) Conversation seems to be over. Stay Classy good sir.

Just to be clear I do think the game will be rated T for Teen and that was what I had a problem with.
-
Edited by Premier N7: 7/30/2013 9:44:56 PMReally? Why? The ERSB is already stating that they are anticipating an M rating and Bungie has already stated that they will not sacrifice their game content for a lower ESRB rating.
-
They have just been really clear about their desire for a T for Teen rating. Even to go so far as to say they want to be able to play Destiny with little kids. Can you link me to where they said they wouldn't sacrifice game content for a lower ESRB rating?

Edited by Premier N7: 7/30/2013 10:35:30 PMThere is another quote form DeeJ about this that someone quoted to me about a week or two ago, but I wasn't able to find it. But this is from DeeJ in response to someone asking if they are going to dial content back for a T rating "What we'll do is make a game that we want to play. We're not as deliberate as your theory suggests."
