Wow, what part of the game is that from? I've always imagined Ace Combat as being just another dogfight sim.

Edited by Kafuu Chino: 7/28/2013 3:00:08 AMThe very last mission of Ace Combat 4. Ace Combat is actually a pretty story-driven series. It's set in a fictional world so there can be things included that wouldn't really work in a real world modern setting, such as superweapons, technology years ahead of us (like mass-drivers), fictional nations and conflicts, etc. It's more of an arcade flight sim, so you have 100+ missiles and so forth. 4, 5, Zero, and 6 are the best games in my opinion. The latest one, Assault Horizon, tried to make it work in a real world setting, which kind of killed the magic of the series, and it introduced a combat system that was pretty meh. It's a fun game series, and there's a new one coming out, Ace Combat: Infinity (as a PS3 exclusive), but there are rumors it might just a small side project until a full game. It too is set in the real world, but it seems they are adding elements reminiscent of the original series: an asteroid (an extremely important part of the Ace Combat lore), superweapons, and so forth.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I'll have to give the series an actual chance instead of just glancing at it in the store.
