I want to get into competitive Halo...

The title says it all. I'll let you know where I'm at right now. So, I've been playing Halo since 2007 or 2008. Halo 2 was the one I played first. I never owned it, because everyday I would go to my friend's house to play with him. I was 10 or 11, so this didn't bother me. We continually played Halo 2 until 2009 (?) because we were 10 and had no idea there was a sequel coming out. By the time we got Halo 3, my friend and I were starting to grow apart. I would still go over every couple of days, but it wasn't the same... In turn, I didn't play Halo 3 as much and that's probably why I never really enjoyed it as much as Halo 2. So, as I was growing up, I heard about Halo Reach. I figured this was the perfect time to get and Xbox. So I eventually bought my own Xbox 360, which came with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I played this game, and I was hooked. I lived this game. I was addicting for a good year and a half. Halo: Reach didn't even cross my mind. My friend, Brett (?) lent me the game. I had to say, Halo had changed. With the introduction of armor abilities (especially sprint) I felt like the game had really stepped up. I actually really enjoyed Reach, far more than 3. But it was weird. I hadn't played Halo in a good 2 years, and I was still going the top of the leader boards, almost every game. Why? Was I selected to be good at this game? Was there something about my strategy that was really good? I doubted it. So I started to look into Competitive Halo. Because I loved Halo since I've been playing it, and I really wanted to play this game in tournaments. I also thought I could make some new Halo friends, because all my friends didn't like Halo that much. So as I'm looking into MLG, I realized I'm really not that good at all. But I could be so much better. So I suppose my question is, what's the proper course of action to get into competitive? Which games should I be playing to improve my skills? Halo 3? Reach? Halo 4? Also, what game modes? What settings? Controller layout (I currently use Bumper Jumper, on a 3 sensitivity). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 • Use the controller scheme that feels most comfortable to you, play regularly but not too much, get decent amount of sleep so your head is clear for every game, practice your tactics and stick with the ones you are best at, and last but not least, get a good team behind you. Whether you join a clan or just get a small group of people/mates whatever, it will really help if you get a good team to support you and it will hone your team player skills, heightening your overall skill and playing flexibility :P
