Idk. I just got back from lifting actually so I look back on that post now having consumed protein shake and I have no idea what I was saying. Nice job on that one year transformation. Don't forget leg day. Also, what are your maxes for Bench, squat and clean?

  • 90kg bench, 100kg squat, 50kg clean and jerk. Don't really go for strength, more hypertrophy. I try to increase my weights when I can but as long as I tear the muscle it's all good.

  • Nice. I go for strength due to it being football (American) season. I got 90 kg Bench, 160 kg Squat, and 100 kg clean.

  • Just out of curiousness, what do you mean by hypertrophy and how is that different from going for strength?

  • Lifting weights to tear muscle and promote repair and growth, not to increase strength. Usually done with a fraction of your max lift (maybe 2/3) and for a high number of reps/sets.

  • If it isn't promoting strength, then what would it do by tearing, repairing, and growing muscle?

  • Get you big and swole. Hypertrophy is for bodybuilding, strength training is for powerlifting.

  • And strength training is going to give you more effective muscle, in many people's opinions.

  • Hypertrophy still builds strength, and I also look great. I see people strong as hell in the gym but they're 20%+ bf and I just lol. Girls don't care how much we can bench.

  • I agree, but girls here in the states also care about how well you play football, and strength is a major factor in being good at the game. It's all about what you want for a return. My body fat percentage is higher than I would like it, but it's all in the lifts and diet I need to get ready for the season. Anyway, all exercise is good exercise as long as you maintain your exertion within your ability.

  • Yup. I do football, I play lineman. I can't bodybuild or else I would lose the fat that's protecting my muscles. Body building does reduce amount of fat, right?
