There's a god damned bird in the house.

I awoke with a start to the noise of what I could only guess to be that of a small motor. I groggily half-opened my eyes and looked around, searching for a source of the noise, and was met with the blurry image of what looked like a flying rat banging against my window. At first, I was only extremely frightened, but found relief in that there was a window between us. Then, as my vision adjusted, I noticed that the little devil was trying to get out. It turns out that someone left the back door wide open last night, and the window this hellish fiend is trying to break through is a tad unconventional and only opens to 2 separate screens. I've already had the displeasure of witnessing it shit into the windowsill, and the noise it's making is cringe-worthy given its source. Anyway, this mistake of nature has been at it for the past half hour, and I was wondering if any of you wonderful people had the slightest idea of what to do. Edit: I stand corrected; hummingbirds apparently do have the ability to learn - Well, either that or it simply screwed up when trying to get out of the window and managed to make contact with the wall. Probably the latter, considering it's now just trying to break through the walls and the ceiling. Or maybe it's just trying to kill itself. Honestly, I don't care what the hell it's doing, I just want it out.
It's out.
Update: The pea-brained son of a bitch tried to kill me! Well... it came within one foot of me while flying, which is basically the same thing. It keeps on flying around the room, attacking any structure that stands in its way, occasionally stopping and resting on the floor - presumably to plot world domination. It's a well known fact that birds can't fly and scheme at the same time. Trust me, I'm a doctor.

    • Update 2: THE DEMON HAS VANISHED. It came to a stop fairly close to the back door, which was still open in case by some miracle the little bastard managed to remember how he got inside in the first place. It was at this point that I used my wizardry skills to make it fly outside. By wizardry skills, I mean yelling and flailing my arms at the thing until it moved. Magic. Anyway, no more need for advice. Either let this thread die or use it to discuss how birds are evil.

      • Hummingbird's can literally starve to death in less than four-hours time. Good to see it's outside, now.

      • Try blocking out all light except for the window or door you want to use to get the bird out. By blocking some of the windows, the bird might actually just find it's way out on it's own. If not, use the towel idea.

      • A bird squats in the vent in my room, and I also have 8 chickens. On top of this, I've had some experience with unwanted birds and bats in the house. The trick is to lock it in your sisters bedroom and forget about the whole ordeal.

      • Grab a towel. GENTLY toss it over bird. GENTLY gather towel. walk outside. GENTLY open towel. Problem solved. and you're welcome.
