It has a notorious learning curve. It's not a game for the feint of heart, or for people who think "ohh...spaceships! Pew pew!" A lot of backstabbing and bullshit goes on in that game. And yet, it is still very fun...

There isn't a free to play option. That being said you can play for free if you make enough money in game.
