I have no persecution complex; Christians are in the majority in the US, and yes, they are often aggressively oppressive against issues like gay rights. That said, the [i]very moment[/i] that you say this attack would be [i]in any way[/i] more justifiable than an equivalent attack with the roles reversed, you have debased yourself to the level of the Christian fundamentalists.
