That was 2 days ago.

sorry sorry!

You're only partially correct. July 2 was the day the US was legally separated from GB. While you might think this is independence, the US did not have a governmental structure on which the country operated until the 4th. So while we were separate, the US as it is known today, did not exist until the 4th.
-
July 2 was the day the US was legally separated from GB.
Thus making it independence day. The founding fathers even intended for July 2nd to be the day in which we celebrated independence. The deceleration itself was written on July 4th, but it wasn't even signed until August 2nd with the last signature on it not being written until January 1777. The US constitution wasn't ratified until 1788 and the government itself officially formed 1789. Your "argument" holds no basis and I honestly have no idea where you're pulling this stuff from.
-
The continental congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on the 4th. Thus celebrating Independence Day. Not independence day. It is the recognition of a specific day in history. Not a state of being.
-
That's not independence day. July 4th isn't Americas 237th birthday. That was on July 2nd. The founding fathers always intended the celebration to be on July 2nd, but the celebrations were pushed back due to war time complications. You were wrong, get over it.
-
No. One single Founding Father wanted it to be celebrated on the 2nd. John Adams. And he just predicted it would be the 2nd. it isn't like he lobbied for it. You apparently misunderstand what we celebrate on July 4th. It is the celebration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Don't they teach these things in school anymore?
-
Jesus Christ, get it through your thick skull that I'm talking about the day the US became independent from GB. Look at the original god damn post. >4th of July >Americas 237th birthday The US became independent on July 2nd. You were wrong about the formation of the US government, didn't even know when it was actually formed, and seem to be incapable of understanding basic English so I'm going to assume that you flunked out of high school. Stop being a back peddling moron.
-
Get it through your thick skull. I didn't back peddle on anything. The 4th is the celebration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Our entire government was formed around this document. It was the birth of America AS DEFINED BY LAW. The second would be considered the death of British America, and the 4th, BY LAW, as the birth of America. You can't argue with facts but I realize it hasn't stopped you yet.
-
I'm with you on this one. Just because a group of people separate themselves from their original country, it doesn't mean that they are an "independent nation". Take Montenegro for example. The regional government held a vote for independence from Serbia on May 21, but they proclaimed their independence on June 6, and that is their holiday.

Edited by Lord Commissar: 7/4/2013 5:35:00 PMWut, you even said yourself that July 2nd was when the US legally became independent. Now your contradicting yourself. You're done. GG no re.

I didn't contradict anything but ok, have it your way.
