As far as we can tell the Tower is the only place in the City we can venture to, what reasons will we be given for fighting for just a skyline?

Some of us are fighting for the XP and awesome lewts, saving humanity is just, you know; par for the course.
-
As Destiny will evolve over 10 years, I wouldn't be surprised if as we reclaim more of our past land, more livable cities would pop up. That would be awesome.
-
Because the last city happens to be america and Americans think they have the right to the world
-
It hasn't been confirmed...hopefully

Your question answers itself. Because we don't WANT to be confined to the last city. Because we want our land back. We don't want to live in fear and oppression. There's countless reasons.

Because "God knoooows, God knows I've got to break free!" -Queen
As far as we can tell the Tower is the only place in the City we can venture to
Key words there. I don't think they've actually said anything about the City other than the fact that it houses the Tower; the Guardians main hub. They haven't addressed if that's the only place in the city we'll be able to venture to, and I find it hard to believe that'd be the case.

That's like asking, "Why fight for Japan in the board game Risk when it's the only territory I have left?" Victory, that's why. You combine some cards and *boom!!* you have 30 armies to throw around. That's what the struggle in Destiny is like.

There is a good possibility we will be able to wander about the City. And since when was there a reason needed to shoot hostile aliens?

What makes you think the tower is the only place we can venture to in the city? And the reason we fight for anything on earth is because, well it's all we have left. Defending our last strong hold for a chance defeat the enemies and expand again and live properly.
