That isn't how it works. Ban length is determined by the offense. So what option you choose when you hit 'report.' When people people report, it goes to the moderators. If the moderators see that the person really did do what people reported them for, the person will get a ban based on the offense.
So if you were thinking of trying to get people banned, you're out of luck.

That much is correct. If a member makes (for example) a dozen posts, and each of them if reported sufficiently to go to our queue, and each post if judged "guilty", then the bans "stack", or the sentences run consecutively. So, one member making a bad post due to an error in judgement, gets banned for that one post. If another member chooses to make a shit-ton of posts that the rest of the members choose to report? Each post reported has a consequence.

Interesting. When I reported some kid posting pr0nz links earlier, I reported him once then muted him. Seems like we almost shouldn't mute the people in that case. I wonder if the webteam has thought about that at all. o.0

For that case, probably. It's probably why reporting a post will also hide the post. But if the same user continuously spams each thread with a certain link, it'd be better to report each one than simply mute him for the reason. Sure you're eliminating him from your view, but you're only contributing to his ban from 1 post when all of them are offending.
