The great Debate: Choosing between Xbone or PS4

Before we begin, let's all take a look at the image above. Please avoid falling into any of those fallacies within this thread, and throughout the following years that this discussion takes place. Now, onto the debate. Xbox One: The Xbox One has an impressive system, with one hell of a selection of exclusive titles to boot. There is not only a tried and tested online system, but a team behind Xbox Live that knows the ropes like no other team. You get a well known quality with Xbox Live, and your money goes towards something that has been proven to work, even under the greatest stress possible. The specs of the Xbox One are still unknown specifically, but as of now, we know comparatively that the console will have a slower RAM than the PS4, and matching memory. Also; "It was widely reported that one of the engineers at Microsoft’s event said that the Xbox One would have 768 compute units. That puts it it exactly in line with the pre-release leaks in terms of graphical power. The bad news is that the PS4 is confirmed to have 1,152 compute units - 50% more than the Xbox One, giving it significantly more power." The main issue for the Xbox One currently, is the price of the selected RAM processor. Originally, Sony selected to have 4GB, while the Xbox would be rocking an 8GB, but the RAM Sony picked dropped in price, and they were able to quickly match Microsoft at 8GB before release.
List of Xbox One Exclusive Titles: 1. Forza Motorsport 5 2. Quantum Break 3. Halo 4. Ryse: Son of Rome 5. Titanfall 6. Lococycle 7. Dead Rising 3 8. Sunset Overdrive 9. Killer Instinct 10. Project Spark 11. Minecraft Xbox One 12. Crimson Dragon 13. Below 14. Kinect Sports Rivals 15. Max and the Curse of Brotherhood 16. D4 17. Zoo Tycoon
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PlayStation 4: Sony's greatest answer to the next generation console war, the PlayStation 4 seeks to give Sony that edge they so desperately need. With the company on the verge of losing against Microsoft, Sony plays the hand they were dealt in pure luck. (See below for "Shoe's breakdown of what Microsoft was trying to do.") The PlayStation 4 specs are still unknown, but we know comparatively, it has been crafted (at this point) to match, or better the Xbox One. While we are still far away from the actual release of these consoles, it is getting closer and closer to the big date, which makes it more likely that these rumors are going to land very near to the truth. "Shoe's Breakdown of what Microsoft was trying to do." With the DRM situation at hand, it's about time we take a look at what exactly it was they were trying to do with this anti-sharing stance surrounding the release of the Xbox One. With any form of electronic entertainment, the greatest concern is Piracy. There is no money made by those who work hard to produce the medium, which is to many, a form of theft. The music industry has fallen victim, the movie industry is soon to follow. One of the last mediums to survive thus far is the Gaming industry. Console gamers have been unable to manufacture pirated copies of games, but the PC gamers have no problem at all. With that in mind, Steam made the reasonable decision to mandate DRM, and constant online connection. This was to prevent piracy of games that need internet connection, though it was never going to be enough to completely stop gaming piracy. But this made sense, because if you use a PC to game, you are almost always going to have an internet connection. This was Microsoft's mistake, because console gamers don't need internet connection. In fact, console gamers went years and years without ever connecting to the internet. This created a form of commerce founded upon the sharing of what a gamer physically owns. Memory cards, controllers, cables and games all were exchanged from hand to hand, and console gamers learned quickly the joy of sharing. When a PC gamer spends the money to play a game, they spend the money to use Steam's connection to other gamers. They spend $60 to be allowed to play with other PC gamers. But when a Console gamer spends $60 for a game, they are owning the entire game, including what they choose to do with the physical disc. Console gamers already spend $60 a year on Xbox Live to play with other gamers, there is no reason why Microsoft should feel it appropriate to dictate that a console gamer must pay $120 to play a game with their friends, especially if the given game is not something that will use the Xbox Live service. To summarize, Microsoft was planning ahead to prevent console piracy, but because it will never truly take hold as it has with PC gaming, the measures taken with the creation of the DRM at this point only prove to increase the profits that Microsoft is capable of making. Perhaps that is a little biased, but it is the only outcome that can be seen currently, especially with this large of an increase in console power, it will be years before there is an easy method of pirating games in this format. I hope you have taken the time to read most, if not all of this posts. Thanks guies.

  • Transistor is not exclusive. It's a timed exclusive. The Dark Sorcerer was a tech demo.

  • You know it's sad when this has to be the one of the hardest choices you've ever had to make in your life. I LOVE Xbox because of the game selection and the only reason i got a PS3 was for my Blu-Rays. I'll make my decision when they both come out

        • Just a random aside, your image at the top of your post is too small to see, either by clicking on it here on Bungie, or following the link to the original place it came from, just an FYI. So you might want to either change it, or find a way to increase its size so that people can read it. Very good thread here, I think you might turn out to be one of those people on here I really like, haha :P In any case, the exclusives have never really mattered to me when it comes to selling a console, especially not with these ones as none of them are anything I'm interested in. All of the games I care about or that I want to pursue are all going to be multi-console, so it's down to the consoles themselves to sell it for me. I like what I've seen with the PS4, it looks like it'll be a pretty nice system and will probably be what I wind up getting in the end. They've won me over the Xbox1, that system has too many problems right now (like the whole DRM thing and mandatory 24-hour check in that you need to be able to play, or the price tag on it) for me to even consider it as is in its current state...now that isn't to say I'm writing it off entirely, if it improves down the road and as time goes on, I might consider buy it, but who knows *shrug* Suffice it to say, right now the only consoles I'm interested in getting are the PS4 and the WiiU.

          • Console exclusives play a big role in swaying opinion, Halo seems to be winding down while Destiny is on the rise. There's nothing really tying me to Xbox anymore. Xbox and PS4 seem to be fairly well matched in hardware yet PS4 is cheaper in terms of console and online service so I have to say I'm leaning towards the PS4

          • I think I have 3 main reasons why I will chose the PS4. There indie support is awesome. (self publishing something that isnt available on the xboxone) And then really not something from the ps4 itself but rather somethings it isnt doing. It isnt doing drm (just out of principle I wont buy it) and it doesnt have anything like the kinect mandatory.

          • #gaming And I don't know I will get either. I am not a fan of the PS exclusive titles. Sure, there are a lot of non-exclusives, but still... I just like M$ products. My concern is over the sign on once a day BS. I was under the impression that you needed it to play off line, and as soon as you signed in that resolved itself. But I have been reading that this may not be the case. It may end up being that you sign on every 24 hours or your games get locked, essentially bricking your console. If this is the case, M$ can screw themselves, as I don't play every day. There have been weeks in a row that I don't turn on my console. They had better clear this up, and fast, or they will lose me as a customer.

            • The Dark Sorcerer is not a game, it was a tech demo designed to show the processing power of the PS4. Also, I was under he impression that the final fantasy game was going to be cross-platform (could be wrong) The PS4 is also going to get the Elder Scrolls Online, and the X1 is not.
