I just had a sudden realization. What if Bungie saves this for later down the line, like in a server update. They could totally do that and they've gotten better at hiding stuff within their games after Halo 3 (just look at Reach)... It could be done. Just imagine it, you've been playing Destiny for around a week or a month, perhaps three months, and then BAM. Something happened and is blamed on a failure of the players. The entire pace of the combat changes because of an unexpected addition. The biggest twist I could personally think of is have a designated safe zone become a combat zone while players are still inside. There could of course be failsafes to keep players from loosing their stuff, but it would be unexpected and an invasion of their personal space. They could do it, they have the skill and the infrastructure in place.

  • I've thought about that. Have you ever heard of 'phasing' in world of warcraft? I would love it if Destiny had something like that. Basically, once you do a certain group of really important missions, the actual world changes forever in your game. Say you're invading an enemy area and there's a quest to make a forward command post. You make it, fortify your position, and suddenly you and any player you can see that has completed those same quests can be in that command post. Other players not there yet see only more battlefield. You can't see each other. The reason this is relevant to your post is because I'm just imagining that happening for players when they FAIL something. As you say, the command post gets overrun and important people get wiped out. Nuts.
